MAMA BRINGS THE HOUSE DOWN!!! Oh my God, I was totally not expecting this! It's hands down, one of the best songs on the record. And everyone's saying how it reminded them of war and Gernany, and WWII, and stuff, but I never even thought of that. I imaged a guy in the south who lived a really bad life, and killed people. He died, and he was writing a letter to his mother. the ending reminded me of Russian and other European music styles. The whole war aspect is pretty cool, though. |

| OMG, i love this song, and it's so true. It's just about how you need to make the most of every moment, cause in a blink of an eye it's gone and in the past. And soon you're all grown up, then maybe a grandparent, and then in your 80s and 90s. This song made me cry once. And I love the parts when he says he's a certain age, but only for a moment- i think those are the best parts of the song. | |

Wow, this is a beautiful song, i can't even discribe it, it's in a catagory of it's own. I'm not sure what it's about, but it sounds like it's either about a company or store going out of business, or a maybe a bad relationship. that might seem a bit off to some ppl, but it could be possible. |

I beleive the song is about Anthony being addicted to drugs, mentally ill, and the drugs controlling his life: "It's got me by my soul to squeeze". "With all the dying trees I scream" - i guess he feels like a dead beat. "The angels in my dream They turn to demons of greed" - everything good is turning bad, and he craves drugs. "Where I go I just don't know I got to, got to, gotta take it slow" - that part is like he needs to slow down his crazy life style, and get himself together. "When I've found my piece of mind I'm gonna give you some of my good time" - when he finally gets himself together, he's gonna live his life and spend time with the ppl he loves. "Today love smiled on me It took away my pain, said please" - the drugs numbed him. "It's bitter baby and it's very sweet I'm on a rollercoaster but I'm on my feet Take me to the river lay me on your shore Well I'll be coming back baby I'll be coming back for more." -the drugs give him a high and low, and is wild and crazy, like a rollercoaster, but he's only standing on his feet, and it's all happening inside his head. And he'll keep coming back for more of the drugs. then the last chorus changed a bit: "Where I go I just don't know I might end up somewhere in Mexico When I find my piece of mind I'm gonna keep for the end of time" - i think that's about him not knowing where his life is going, and right after RHCP's guitarist, Hillel, died, Anthony ran away and hid out in a small Mexican village, trying to become clean and get rid of his drug addiction. I think the last chorus reflects that. I think the whole song is about anthony being addicted to drugs and trying to stop while he was hiding out in the village. |

Wow, even though they are not my fave band now, i still love em. They were my favorite band for about a year, and i embarrassingly admit, i was depressed when i did. And while they didn't really 'save my life' from like death or something like that, they really helped from being totally depressed and out of it for a year. They're my boys. But so anyways, i think this song is about how Gerard was always in the hospitals because of drug and liver problems, (from drinking problems), and how it was driving him crazy. And i guess he met someone there, and they talked to each other about how great it would be to get out of there, and maybe became friends. I think the part: 'Starless eyes for heaven's sake' refers to being out of it, or drugged up on novacaine or w/e, and 'starless eyes' is like how they weren't really looking at anything, and there was almost no life in them. 'From silent dreams we never wake' is about being out cold, from medical drugs I'm assuming. And then the parts; 'We can get out We Don't Have to stay. Stay inside this place' and 'Well i thought i heard you say to me We'll go so far. Far as we can And i just can't stay One day we'll run away' is about how they will stop using drugs and clean up their lives when they get out, so they don't have to come back and remember all the terrible things that had gooten them there in the first place. or maybe it's just about getting out of the hospital cause they don't like it. *shrugs* but i doubt the last one. overall, i think it's about how Gerard thinks getting out of there would be the best day of his life. |

Ok, i didn't have time to read every comment, so someone might have already posted something like this. I think the song is about life in general, 'can't stop addicted to the shin dig' probably refers to being addicted to life, like it's a big party and your never gonna stop being part of it. 'Go write your message on the pavement' sounds like it's about expressing yourself. 'complete the motion if u stumble' is like get up and keep trying even if u screw up a bit at first. I have a couple ideas about the rest of it, but i honestly don't know what the whole thing means. And of course artists and bands usually don't know what their songs mean either. they just put together what sounds good. but i think the whole song is just about living life no matter what, love and music. 'Music the great communicator' i think is about how music can connect pple like nothing else in the world can. There's just some sort of magical thing about music, and it can't stop. |
