It was actually written long before Hammond left the band and is more likely about Hammond leaving behind his passion for art and instead playing bass for Tull. I've always though it was ceased as well. |

emalthma, they're just sounds, not words, like saying "la la la la" in a song, they don't mean anything. Anyway, this song is damn good, it has some very good banjo work and a funky video to boot. It's unfortunate that this is the only decent song that Dexy and his runners could come up with. |

Anybody who bothered mentioning that the first verse is about masturbation, is an idiot. I don't think this song really has much of a meaning, probably has something to do with modern society (or at least how it was in the '90s). but not necessarily about it being fucked up. What I do know is that this is an awesome song, it always gets stuck in my head. And Harvey Danger wern't a one hit wonder... Most of 'Where Have All The Merrymakers Gone?' was damn good. |

Most bands DO sing about stuff that is important to them, yes there may be a bunch of bands that make music so they can sell lots of records, but the majority just make music.
