Arrested Development – Tennessee Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm amazed (disappointed) that there are no comments. Potentially the most lyrically signficant hip-hop/rap song ever written. "Tennessee" describes one man's reckoning of his past culture into rationale for the present state of African Americans. The struggle continues, but through enlightenment, ambition and pride, truly equal liberties and justice will prevail. Incredible song that is motivational, spiritual and altogether wonderful.

Joseph Arthur – Honey And The Moon Lyrics 20 years ago
"Honey and The Moon" is about a same-sex relationship that is stalled because of societal constructions. One partner is willing to fight to futher gay activism by possibly entering into a marriage, legal union, etc., but the other is reluctant to do so because everything he/she knows and is taught to value says it is wrong. "I think that you came too soon.." and "right now eveything you want is wrong" are defeatist statements that unfortunately are realistic when considering today's stubbornly "sacred" way of thinking about relationships. "Run away to the shores of freedom where no one lives" - the ideal, utopian society where relationships are not defined by institutions. The soft, whispery tone of the song's vocal symbolizes the secretive way the two communicate; essentially hiding the relationship from our culture's disapproval. J. Arthur nails this current issue by tugging on the emotional strings of all listeners - both advocates and detractors from gay rights - through a phenomenal song.

Mike Doughty – Madeleine and Nine Lyrics 20 years ago
I heard a rumor that this song is about a woman struggling with heroin that Mike met in rehab. Is there any truth in this?
