Saul Williams – List of Demands (Reparations) Lyrics 19 years ago
While touring with NIN in New Orleans before he sings the song, he says "You know, thank you, one of the most beautiful things that I've witnessed as a result of the horrible things that occurred here, was how American people simply just came out and gave not because they were told to do it, because they felt it in their hearts, and this next song is essentially about you realizing that the powers that be, may be the powers that be, but that the real powers are the powers of being, that each and everyone one of us have, and that we all have the opportunity every day, to stand up and make a difference, the name of the song is list of demands."

Jimmy Eat World – My Sundown Lyrics 19 years ago
It's official. This song is ambiguous enough that you're all able to apply it to your own personal lives. It's not necessarily a good thing. The song has enough emotion to be able to move everyone to this, but the author's point is garbled. The AA interpretation, the cutting and suicide interpretation, pretty funny to read.

Depeche Mode – It's No Good Lyrics 19 years ago
Just to add, this song is great to listen to when you feel like crap and are unsure about where a relationship could go, especially if she doesn't appear to reciprocate with her feelings nearly at all.

Nine Inch Nails – Only Lyrics 20 years ago
I had always thought he was saying that in his previous albums, he identified at least partially with characters he created. Now he realizes he made it up.

Personally, at times I've been truly upset, my mind has started making things up about how people are truly treating me, and about how I feel and how I should respond.

This also makes more sense to me since With Teeth was a rather different album than any other before it.

Nine Inch Nails – Ripe (With Decay) Lyrics 20 years ago
The flies buzzing is reminiscent of the sound of eraser from tds.

Anyone else hear crickets about 4:30 to 5 into the song?

Has to be the oddest NIN song, and the eeriest song I've ever heard. I do enjoy listening to it while sleeping. It's probably what dying and rotting in the ground would sound like, you know, if you were conscious for that.

Unfortunate that NIN shyed away from instrumentals in With Teeth, seeing as how arranging and not writing lyrics, is Reznor's strong point.

Depeche Mode – It's No Good Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't really agree with the contention that all of these songs from Ultra are about drugs. Martin Gore wrote these songs and not the singer, who was into heroin.

Anyway, this song is either about a man that's in denial about his relationship with a woman. Or, it's about a man that sees the woman he loves is in denial about their relationship.

The use of language places the situation somewhere between these two. A tamer lover compared to the Police's "Every breath you take"

Depeche Mode – John The Revelator Lyrics 20 years ago
John the Revelator was the author of the Book of Revelations in the New Testament. It was added to the canon of the New Testament, but lacks any real moral teaching, resorting to scare tactics and dogma.

It is quite commonly disregarded in many Christian sects, however, is not openly dismissed.

Whenever you see a movie about Satan or something, much of the reference material comes from this work that has no real relation to Jesus' time.

Depeche Mode – The Love Thieves Lyrics 20 years ago
Without paying attention to the lyrics it seems it's a love song, which it kind of is. It's definitely an attack on obsessive love for God, and particularly Jesus in Christian doctrine.

The theme presents our idea of God in a negative light. Anyone who defies love of God, such as Jonah or Adam and Eve, are branded love thieves. The best we can do at life is to receive God's glory "Beseeching the honour / To sit at your table / And feast on your holiness / As long as they're able". Anyone who refuses is a love thief, "Their minds are on trial." He also presents that the obsessive love with God or Jesus can be equated with passionate, or dare I say sexual, love with the lyrics "You're holding court / With your lips and your smile / Your body's a halo" We're obsessed with the characterization of God and Jesus in our own image. God made humans in our own image, really means "we made God in our own image."
