haha, i don't mean to make fun, but "putten?" heehee. I like that. it sounds like something my brother would say. this is my favorite punkins song...for sentimental reasons mostly. i do feel it is about elusive sleep, as well as the pain of unrequited love and the resulting lonliness. have you ever been involved with someone, but in love with another? another who did not return your affections? meanwhile, the one you're with adores you much the same as you adore the other? ouch. |

"I should fall for looking craft..." should be "that i should fall for the kingcraft of a meritless crown" also, maybe at one time she was with someone, manipulative or abusive, whose "agenda" is now clear to her. |

"While you spit in your cut" should be "...spttin your cud" and yes, it is ACHE. meaning: it's so hard to stay in love, given the crap you go through in a relationship. i think this is about wanting to be in love ("i miss that stupid ache"), but giving up on it, feeling like you won't find it. and settling for someone who causes sufferng and pain and misery. and hating them deep down. |

tremendous song. while i don't care for glasshard's interpretation of the film donnie darko, this is after all, a forum discussing song meanings, and i do concur with his/her interpretatation of the song. really can't put it into better words. i like both versions. by the way- it's michael andrews featuring gary jules, to give the artist a bit of credit. |

to add to that- how can you *hate* this song? it is a GREAT song! maybe that's actually the "jd fan-cliche"- to be a *true* jd fan, you can't like Love Will Tear Us Apart- b/c anyone could like that song- it's too goddamned good. but noooo, we have to be different. we have to hate everything other people can like b/c we're cooler. wah- you guys fit perfectly into the *emo* category. that's the same as not liking blue dress, or not liking how soon is now, or not liking love song...go back to your fake dungeons and mope. |

"Get a taste in my mouth" is *definitely* a reference to ian curtis' epilpsy- just before a seizure or during, there is a strange, metallicky/nutty taste in the mouth. personally, i think the song is just what it is. it's not some veiled drug reference- it is about ian curtis and deborah curtis. it is about his feeling he's failed his wife by having an affair. it is about his own depression and struggles with his illness and trying to come to grips with the fact that his marriage is failing- and if you think about it, this is very much what love is like..at least in my experience. at one time, the song was just another i listened to, but now, as i'm older and wiser, it has great meaning to me. i love it more than ever, no matter how "jd fan-cliche" that may be... |
