Got my first taste of this song from the movie almost famous, its on the soundtrack...and if you listen really closely to the conversation with the kid and russell in the court in arizona you can hear it...uhhh well what can i say, its an unbelievable song, word on the street is its about ronnie van zant's grandmom and him...like their relationship or some shit, which makes sense when you think about it...the first 10 seconds or so might by skynyrd's finest |

All I can do is write about it is one of many great, yet underappreciated lynyrd skynyrd songs...when i hear it it makes me think of people/crime/pollution moving further and further into the empty areas of the country for industrial purposes...ronnie van zant truly was a very "simple man", and probably found more redeeming value in watching a birds egg hatch than going to london to see some old fuckin clock...so, well he wrote a song about it |

Freebird is hands down one of the greatest songs of all time, and i have no problem with people interpretting it their own way, but like one person said before, it was a tribure to duane allman, one of ronnie van zant's inspirations in the music world...so i have to think the whole "if i stay here with you girl thing" isnt talking about a girl, but the earth itself, i really dont know, i just started reading a book called freebirds about lynyrd skynyrd so when im done ill check back in |
