The Silver Jews – Tennessee Lyrics 20 years ago
the wife is awesome. this song would be terrible if the female part was all slick or something...

Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics 20 years ago
i piss my boyfriend by listening to this song over and over again, and singing.
i do think it is one of those songs that strikes everyone differently- even though it is about a sad story in truth...
it reminds me of a friend who i care very much about and who has drug problems (not heroin) and gets herself into financial trouble because of it- even though she's loaded.
she is also gay, and quite boy-ish- and is very embarrassed when people see pictures of her as a little girl, dressed girly...
"And I don't think that I ever loved you more.
Than when you turned away.
When you slammed the door.
When you stole the car drove towards Mexico.
And you wrote bad checks just to fill your arm.

I was young then I still believed in war.
But let the poets cry themselves to sleep.
and all their tearful words could turn back into steam.
me Im a single cell on a serpants tongue.
and theres a muddy field where a garden was
and I'm glad you got away.
but I'm still stuck out hear.
my clothes are soaking wet from your brothers tears."
-- that part gets me. she's put me through so much drama, and i totally identify with the first section, and then the sadness of the second part- "i still believed in war"- i thought i could still fight and get her out of her patterns.
i guess it's about one of those situations that everyone can identify with, in some way. that's one of conor's best qualities as a writer. turning something specific into something universal.

The Silver Jews – How Can I Love You? (If You Won't Lie Down) Lyrics 20 years ago
i disagree with everyone. except lost in twilight.
1) i think it is about getting the girl to lie down. so he can make love to her, because "fast cars, fine ass/ these things will pass/ and it won't get any more profound" means (to me) that you might as well enjoy it while it's here. children play the game of time well, because they think they have forever (and they kind of do, because of the way their minds work)
and 2) this is a great song. lyrics and all.
