| The Wallflowers – One Headlight Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think that the girls literal death in the song may not be her actual death. I think her 'death' is either the death of their love or maybe even the death of their (or her) innocence. there are only two characters in the song and the chorus states "We can drive it home / With one headlight"...how can there be a "we" if the only other character aside from the narrator himself is this girl. To me it just means the stages of hopefullness during and after a break-up. The chorus has that hopefull upbeat sense that they may just make it (either because they're still together or they just broke-up and may get back together or whatever the case may be), but the verses (1 and 3 anyways) are from the point of view that the relationship is over and most of the hope is dead. He mentions "This place" in the first and third verses. I'm starting to think that it could mean the city in literal terms, but it could also mean his memory and feelings towards her...it's lonely, scattered, and rundown. A wasteland of sorts. Just one possible interpretation of many. The abuse one could also fit in quite well though. Very distinct imagery and vivid details, incredibly songwriting. I love this song. |

The thing that always hits me is: "She doesn't count the tear drops/ That she's cried while he's away" Henley's a really great songwriter. He has a way of making things so plainly stated and very thoughtful at the same time. |

| Ten Years After – As The Sun Still Burns Away Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this ones about knowing that good things don't last forever, so you better stop and appreciate things right now before it's too late. | |
| Bob Dylan – Queen Jane Approximately Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
First off, I'd like to agree that I don't think it's about pot. But in going with what someone said earlier that it's about Dylan himself, it does seem to be a pretty good fit. The song is about someone who has grown distasteful to those around them. They long for someone to speak to, and the singer is the one person they can turn to. Maybe Dylan is just wishing he had someone there to speak to. He had a lot of people that weren't there for him anymore, and seemed to feel alienated from: He basically ran away from home very early in his life and changed his name. He made a lot of friends in The Village, some of whom felt betrayed or that Dylan put on a false persona. His first major love left to study art in europe which he was obviously hurt...it shows in some of his earlier work. Also, a great amount of his earlier work was based in political protest and as he moved away from that basis, many of the folk singers and a great deal of his earlier fan base felt betrayed. Basically, he was sick of the repetition (such as that of creating the same songs over and over in his protest years). His children (fans) were beginning to resent him...although he obviously made a lot of new fans with this album. The clowns, or businessmen (from the sounds of it), probably got in the way of just being able to make music as did the advisors. The bandits could also be the protest singers or his acquiantences from the village. It makes sense to me anyways. Just one interpretation among many though. |

| I think chub nailed this one...that's what i was thinking reading through the lyrics too. | |
| Tim Buckley – Wings Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It's about missing someone you love and the realization afterwards that you don't need them anymore. Stop questioning what could have been because it will never be and let yourself fly (take a chance on another person, don't be afraid to be yourself again...take from it what you will) |

| Tim Buckley – Goodbye and Hello Lyrics | 20 years ago |

This is some really amazing songwriting. I'd never really paid attention to the lyrics before...Tim Buckley is an incredible songwriter. It's about the youth replacing the older generation and giving hope for the future back during vietnam. All the comparisons between Middle Ages and now is pretty atypical for the typical pop song...that's why tim buckley is so damn cool though. |

| Tim Buckley – Pleasant Street Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is one of my favorite Tim Buckley songs! I think it's about depression in general but to get a little deeper into it I think it's about living in the past and not being able to forget. In this instance I think the narrator is trying to forget about a former lover and can't do it. Some quotes from the song in relation to this: "And you found yourself falling back to yesterday's lies" "Hello, Pleasant Street, you know she's back again" "At twilight your lover comes to your room He'll spin you, he'll weave you 'round his emerald loom And softly you'll whisper all around his ear "Sweet lover, I love Pleasant Street"" Assuming this interpretation is right I think that this line, "You wheel, you steal, you feel, you kneel down " means that the girl will wheel and steel means she'll lie and take (or break) his heart and he's well aware of it but he can't help wanting to be with her again...he still remembers all the good times (pleasant street). Reading back over the lyrics I think the narrator may have done the same to her as she did to him, furthering this thought that they just aren't good for each other (but can't help wanting each other anyways) |

| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Country Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It sounds like the narrator is talking to someone they used to love or care about. I think the basis of the song is that indecision on the road to adulthood is what kills you, not questioning what you should do and what path you should take. Instead or worrying about the future if you live in the now the future will unravel itself ("Find out that now was the answer to answers that you gave later.") The recurring theme of the song, "Too late to keep the change, too late to pay, no time to stay the same, too young to leave." is a pretty cool lyric. It's too late to change yourself, too late to pay your dues, but you don't want to be the same anymore, however you can't leave because you're just too young. The waitress is really caught up in a catch 22 and just doesn't know what to do. |

| Jeff Beck – Let Me Love You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Really dirty guitar work on this one, I love Jeff Beck's tone! Stewart does a hell of a job delivering vocals too. The meaning of the song and the lyrics aren't difficult to get at but it doesn't matter at all on this, the guitar work is where it's at. | |
| Jeff Beck – Shapes of Things Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I like this version of the song, but I like the Yardbirds' version more...still Truth is one of my favorite albums of all time so that's gotta count for something. It also includes my favorite work by Rod Stewart, but Jeff Beck is where it's at. Amazing guitarist... | |
| Steely Dan – Bodhisattva Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It kind of sounds to me that the bodhisattva's are hypocrites. The narrator is talking about selling their house and being taken by the hand by the bodhisattva's but they want to see the bodhisattva's china...so maybe the bodhisattva's aren't exactly what they preach in this scenario. | |
| Steely Dan – Black Friday Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The basic idea behind this song is a businessman who's responsible for either black friday or something bad within his company and won't take responsibility even though he is ethically responsible for everything that went wrong. I'm not really sure if there's someone in particular this song is about or just businessman in general. |

| Faith No More – Zombie Eaters Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I agree with infotainment lad completely. It's obvious that the baby is metaphorical and the song is about a partner within a relationship who is basically just too needy and depends on their partner. I think the name of the song, "zombie eaters", refers to the idea that the dependant party simply feads on their partner and really doesn't have any feelings of their own and simply lets their partner determine how they feel. |
