| The Decemberists – Sons and Daughters Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I now believe it to be about a post-nuclear apocalypse scenario. Everything fits- aluminum is obviously the rebuilding of houses after the bombs, and would not have been available during WWII. Cinnamon is a dried food, so could be stored in a fallout shelter easily. Sons and daughters is, I believe, a reference to future generations emerging from the shelters after many years of sub-terranian living after a nuclear winter. | |

For some reason, it made me think of colonist days, but it's more likely about a more recent war. I would be inclined to agree with the WWII theory. The "build our walls aluminum" may refer to Anderson shelters; cheap metal shelters built in Britain during WWII. Either way, this is probably my favourite song of the new album. It uplifts me greatly every time my ears have the joy to make its acquaintance. |

Very clear atheistic sentiments in this song. Some really beautiful pertaining to the ability of religious leaders to sometimes control people's lives: "Was later found by geeks and crooks" "Sit down in the boat don't spill it" And the often violent acts resulting from religion: "It's not murder its an act of faith baby" |

| I don't know why, but I've always got the idea that the actor in the song is still trying to get a start in the theaters and is singing about what he is hoping for. | |

| I think "we gamble to be born again" refers to choosing the "right" religion, in som of which people are reincarnated. | |
