Between the Buried and Me – Disease, Injury, Madness Lyrics 16 years ago
To me this seems like an Anti-Scientology song, or at least a song that is rallying against the same inherent abilities of certain humans to control subordinate populations through cultism. The opening verse is both the most primal and the most disturbing as it describes the base desire of humans to innervate and control their surroundings. It's the same modus operandi as serial killers just with that one slightly less (physically) non-violent tweak. That's why the first verse is so dark, it could well be the same thoughts/words of a serial killer. The continuation into themes of control and revelation at the end that the figure is in fact a cult leader is even more disturbing. I think it's largely inspired by people like L. Ron Hubbard, Charles Manson.

Usher – Trading Places Lyrics 16 years ago
Umm...yeah he did. Call me gay (as my blond gf with double ds sleeps next to me) but am I crazy to think this song is about Usher getting it in the ass from a chick either by way of her hand or a dyldo?
I mean...tonight you're the top, I'm the bottom? You been me I been you so now Ima put it in your ass?

August Burns Red – Composure Lyrics 17 years ago
i kind of think it might be about drug addiction more specifically heroin, the "crutch" referred to could be in response to people (addicts included) calling religion a "crutch" when they themselves are using to drugs as a crutch to cope, so he's saying if you're going to take a crutch it might as well be spirituality then at least you won't destroy yourself

Be Your Own Pet – Bitches Leave Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is about scene girls pissing off the lead singer trying to fuck her band members and other people on tour, just basically war on scene bitches, a recurring theme for this chick along with stories from the road

Horse the Band – Lif Lyrics 18 years ago
in fact...after enjoying some christmas purple nurple and playing this song again (i actually started with i think we are both and let it lead in) i found somethin...it's cool because, somewhat like the black hole at the end of the mechanical hand, you can catch references to each song throughout this song, i think actually counting backwards in order (listen for the girl crying, sounds of the beach, the bear, etc and not in that order what so ever) and it eventually ends with the howling winds that open hyperborea. so really a natural death can be played in a continuous loop...which is an entertaining take on immortality or the soul or the continuing cycle of life or death or something i think

The National – City Middle Lyrics 20 years ago
this seems like a song (obviously) about reflection, as well as displacement and empty nomadic living. amazing lyrics, just the right blend of ugly misoginy without becoming overbearing or cynical. very honest record, very honest band.
