okay, i might be totally off the actual meaning of the song, but this is what i got out of it... "The drummer's gone to tune up all her toms I laid my head down and now my wallet's gone" the drummer is preparing her toms with which she will impress her audience. And as the narrator relaxes the entertainment business "steals" money out of him? Hooplas involving circus tricks At addresses way out in the sticks The pixies in tight green little skirts say it's so much better now that is hurts The tides that pull you down in the river She touched my knee and that made me quiver Winks with her eye, 3.14 (pi) Is there anyone who knows the whole thing?" well, i guess the circus is held somewhere from actual town, yet a lot of people attend, showing the importance of the entertainment industry and how much it makes. (the first line tells how crowded the place is) the pixie in the tight mini skirt is saying how it's better because she's now performing and making big money as a result of her participation in the industry. Although it (possibly the tight skirt?) hurts, she still thinks that it's a better lifestyle for her. the tide and river metaphor, again, is the entertainment industry? "she winks with her eyes" - maybe someone who sells herself with her talents or looks (possible prostitute) for money. 3.14, no one really knows the whole thing and the end of this alluring by the media. "It's loaded with references when the mime speaks about the biz We asked him for a glass that might be clean But he's too busy posing for fashion 'zines" the circus is no longer up for pure temporary entertainment but also serves as an ad to promote other "references" of the "biz". the narrator and whoever he's with wants the purest from this entertainment but are ignored because the mime (models, singers, actors, etc..included) is too busy posing for the media for a good image so as he/she will have a future in the business, losing the original purpose to entertain. and then it repeats. i might be totally off cuz everyone else before me seemed to have seen this song as a link to "endless love" and the such. but yeah, these are my thoughts... good?? =] |
