nevermind, I emailed the band. Not that the responses were just pouring in anyway.

Does anyone know why he called both Rhet Miller and Stewart Ransom Miller II? Is it a joke I am just not in on? Throw me a bone here folks.

in his defense, I am looking at the lyric sheet now and it is pretty darn close to word for word.
"I'd call the police" but that's all I see.

The Old 97s – Rollerskate Skinny Lyrics 20 years ago
I pretty much want nothing more than to see these guys live. My favorite band and I've never seen them. Granted I have onle been to one concert ever.....
But Rhett really gets some kudos from me. He isn't an idiot. Unfortunately, he is over my head a lot of times.

Anna Nalick – Breathe (2 A.M.) Lyrics 20 years ago
I had a few thoughts on some of the verses.
In the first verse I do think it is quite possible the girl is getting an abortion, however I think there are other options just as plausible. For instance "I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season" could refer to the girl not being able to be alone and being with a boy she didn't love then losing her virginity to him. She could be getting on birth control or plan B. or just giving birth. But I think whichever is easiest for you to relate to is what's important.

I also think that it is a bit presumptuous to say the second first is about someone trying to quit being an alcoholic. The lyrics show no remorse for drinking. It seems to me that the boy drinks to escape some of what he deals with on a daily basis. He could be deported and miserable or scared which is why she would want to hold him. And I love the contrast of "my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles." As destroying as she finds his unhappiness, his smile is that uplifting.

One the whole, I also love how in control she seems in this. She is the tower of strength and seems to be giving great advice. She helps who needs and feels for others without being smothering or judgemental. She sees people trapped and lost and warns them not to turn back to repeat the same mistakes and that some mistakes can't be undone. When your world is spinning out of control, to make it smaller. To take your head in your hands and just breathe. You can own your breathing. That is something that puts you back in control so you can gain perspective. I find this song and her others very brilliant.
