everyone can relate to any song because were all people and we experience the same emotions no matter what scale they are on. Sure, sounds like im a therapist, but think about it. If you read through it this song is simply about the life of a musician, especially in the times since music became a massive industry, whether its drugs, overbooked shows, underbooked shows, or just trying to get into the "glamourous" facade of the music buisness, its a raw experience for anyone on any level of the buisness itself, this is what he's telling people here, that you have to give up values, care, and many other things in life for the music industry to bring you wealth and fame. Its for some pepole and not for others

Being a musican and understanding how alot of lyrics are written i would have to say that it really doesnt have a definate meaning to it. Most bands, such as Floyd, write clever lyrics that can be taken anyway the listener wants. Either way, these lyrics are brilliant.

My guess is the song has to do with the freedom riders who got attacked trying to make the interstate bus routes safe in the south for blacks.
