This song is best listened to with sharp attention. I agree with TheObsessor - it's unique. I find the "Stop it / Don't look at the gunmen" part really effective... the background track is quite good. This song makes me feel sad, but not moved to tears. It's a bitter feeling... |

No one's posted for this song? I think it's a pretty good one. Kind of like an electronic version of The White Stripes. I like the line, "There's a sound / That we make when we sleep around". The word "around" sounds kind of like an afterthought and it changes the meaning o f the line entirely... |

I like what insomniac said all the way near the beginning of this comment board. That's definitely my perspective, and that of many New Critics. I think that drugs is a legitimate interpretation, but I hope that this AMAZING song is about something a little less shallow than drugs.
Someone said that it's about being heartbroken, and that the band had said so on MTV. Makes sense, I guess.
For me, it's about being "high on life". The lyrics are simple and sweet and repetitive, not to mention infectious. When I hear "string from the tether unwinds", I don't think of tether as leash or anything (even though that's what it means)... I actually picture a kid on a tire swing that is unwinding and spinning really fast. For me, the whole song is like that - fast and fun and energetic, a little dizzying actually. It may not be what Jimmy Eat World intended me to think, but that's how it is! |
