Okay, this is the first song that I really really liked. I was about 9 when it came out. I was a different case because most preteens were listening to the backstreet boys and similar crap at the time. But as a little 9 year old, I LOVED and still do LOVE this song! I can never forget the chorus, the way Michael just belts his lungs out. I've been listening to it for nine years and it's still fuckin' awesome. Also, I should note that I bought the album before Michael passed away, so that was a monumental time to buy the album. Best song on Elegantly Wasted, but there are also some other awesome tracks too. Give it a listen. RIP Hutchence |

It's a beautiful song. Even though I've been hearing this song my whole life, I just realized how wonderful it is. Makes me sad because that's what love songs do. Just to add to my comment from many months ago, a Sublime Deluxe edition was apparently just released and I found out that the version of Doin' Time that everyone knows is not the original that Brad had wanted. Before he died, the band was still trying to get permission to use the lyrics "Doin' Time and the livin's easy" in the chorus. So at the last minute, their producer friend Miguel sang Summertime because the Gershwin estate said that "doin time" took away from the original song Summertime's meaning. So it's not Brad you hear there- even though it sounds a hell of a lot like him.
Anyway, it made me sad that one of my favourite songs wasn't in its original form. But whatever! If I can convince my parental units that I am old enough to buy this "original sequencing" album, then I'll be happy. Still an awesome song! Funky, there isn't another song on the planet that sounds like it. DOIN' TIME!! |

i really like these guys, but when the hell is their next album coming out? it's been years.. Anyways, this song made me like the band, and i went to see them in summer '04 in vancouver when they were less popular. it was awesome, although i don't remember most of the songs they played because i hadn't bought their album yet. but i do remember Adam saying that "California is on the same coast!" (as Vancouver) So that was cool- bands always suck up to the cities that they play in. But whatever- i really miss that concert and i hope they come back here sometime soon. And when is Ryan's arm going to be ok so he can actually tour again!?? |

okay- it's not like this song is exactly melodic, but i still can never get it out of my head after i hear it. the instrumental part where it's just the solo sounds almost out of tune, but i completely understand that Kurt probably did this on purpose-- kind of makes sense, doesn't it? Grunge didn't follow the rules. And I should add that although Nirvana is not my favourite band ever, it still ranks in my top twenty and every single song i've heard from them has a definite impact. |

I agree with whoever said this song is repetitive (i fast-forward the beginning b/c I can't stand it) but it still rocks. you don't hear many tunes like this- quiet, sexy vocals (let's admit it girls!) and a loud, abrasive-sounding guitar. How ironic, yet how poetic. Absolutely love this. |

one of the best by ec. btw, the version on brand new history was re-edited and it sounds smoother but not as rock as the original. the original is better if you're a fan of hard rock, and it's on the much big shiny tunes 4. anyway, i love this song. you can't really dance to it or anything.. i tried singing to it but trevor's voice is too low or too high for me.. (waah) but it still rocks! has anyone noticed the end is really cheesy, with the quiet guitar and all? eh! at least trevor is still performing! whenever Hurst comes to my city, I'm there! |

this is my absolute fave song in the world. it's awesome.. it has the best tune ever and i like everything about this song, except one of the lyrics, "i'd like to hold...". IF he doesn't like his gf cheating on him, he should just break up w/her, not say stupid things like that. anyway, it's a good mix between reggae and rock and it has this sort of mysterious feel to it..i can just imagine brad and the band chilling around in long beach.. absolutely awesome! :) sublime!! |
