| At first i thought the song was seriously anti-piracy, but as it went on I saw that it's obviously a satire. Most artists, from what I hear, don't make money per album sold, rather, the record company does. Artists get their money from the record companies practicly bidding for them. | |

A very good song. The meaning, as in all Coheed' songs, is a bit confusing to figure, but I'll take it stanza-by-stanza. WARNING!: It's not a kid-friendly song! You could have been all I wanted But you weren't honest Now get in the ground (Quite simple. Claudio had high hopes for Newo, but she cheated on him, so he snaps and wants to kill her. You can see his mental state gradually getting worse and worse as the song goes on) You choked off the surest of favors But if you really loved me You would've endured my world (This stanza is very dirty... Basicly Claudio rapes her and forces a certain act on her which she's not accepting. He takes this as meaning she never really loved him at all) If you're just as I presumed A whore in sheep's clothing Fucking up all I do (Now the sex acts get a bit more bizzare... To put is simply, Claudio has a secret "furry" side and forces it onto her. She's still not very willing but he threatens to kill her if she doesn't cooperate) And if here we stop Then never again will you see this in your life (Now he's telling her if she doesn't accept his "love" now, she'll never get it again) Hang on to the glory of my right hand Here laid to rest is our love ever longed? With truth on the shores of compassion (Jump forward a little bit. She's left and he's alone. Having not gotten what he wanted from her he resorts to masturbation saying essentially "Ah, right hand, I know you'll always be here for me, you'll always be truthful to me, and you'll always love me") You seem to make premise to all of these songs (A bit of a non-sequiter this line is. He's saying that all his songs seem to revolve around Newo (and if you look, they do. They also usually have him wavering between loving her and wanting to kill her. What a great boyfriend, no?) You stormed off to scar the armada (This line is actually making use of an inside joke between Claudio and Newo. "The Armada" are her arms, kind of the same way some people use the term "guns" to describe them mixed with a pun. So, she, scarred emotionally by the rape, went off to cut herself) Like Jesus played later I'll drill through your hands (I think this part is self-explainitory) The stone for the curse you have blamed me (Newo calls and blames him for giving her AIDS) My love and devotion I'll die as you sleep (Aparently completely confused about what he feels about her, he is now feeling so guilty about giving her the STD that he plans to commit suicide that night) If you could just write me out To neverless wonder.. happy will I become (Telling her to just forget about him so he can kill himself without her feeling bad about it on his conscious) Be true that this is no option, So with sin I condemn you (He realizes that's not going to happen so he abandons the suicide idea (for now) and basicly tells her she's going to have to deal with living in the same world as him) DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! (Having gone totally batshit insane by this point, he's screaming at the "demons" in his head) Hang on to the glory of my right hand Here laid to rest is our love ever longed? Judging by the situation, the direction it's going, and the rather violent music that makes up the rest of the song I think it's safe to say he rapes her again here) (And in case you havn't picked it up, Claudio is gay. All referances to "her" are actually to "him." Think I'm insane? Spell "Newo" backwards.) |

"Five beyond the skies align, Zeus to Ra" This line gives us the answer to a question I'm sure a lot of people ask: "What is the Power of Five?" Apparently it's the power of the five planets from Jupiter (the Latin name for Zeus) to the Sun (Ra is the Egyptian sun god). So Jupiter, Mars, Earth, Venus, and Mercury are the "Five." The moon seems to play a significant part in the story too and "Ra" isn't a planet itself, but I'm fairly sure they aren't part of the "Five" jusdging from this line from the official website: "Ma'at spoke of an alignment of five planets" Yup. Planets. |

Oh, forgot to mension, i think there's a mistake in the lyrics. It's listed as "I've jacked up until I bleed" but i think it's "I've jacked off until I bleed." Could be wrong, but *shrug* Any suggestions for more vulgar songs? #2 on my list is South park's Uncle Fucker. that's a classic. XD |

Bah. UnforvivenII, from what i've seen you're the rare breed of nice, intelectual person I pride myself on being. I think this is about an adventurer of some kind being beckoned by some sentient (and probably evil) magical item to defeat the guardian and take it from it's 'prison' in the keep. I like the concept, but it's really the vocals of this song that make it one of my favorites. |
