I first heard this song on Eminem's 'Stan'. I went out and bought the No Angel album and ended up loving Dido more than I ever did Eminem. Funny how these things happen. This song is so great because of its simplicity and how relatable it is. Who hasn't woken up feeling crappy and having your morning drink getting cold, missing the bus, having a crappy day riddled with bad weather and rain? Then you come home and someone 'hands you a towel' and everything is OK again. This song means a lot to anyone who has anybody around that makes him or he feel happy and comforted. |

| Does this song strike anyone else as being very Beatles-esque? The lyrics ("But oh, what can you do when she's dressed in black,") and the harmonies in particular are quite reminiscent of early Lennon-McCartney hits such as Baby's in Black. Obviously there's the usual dark twist thrown in there typical of DM but there's an oddly bouncy upbeat to it as well. | |

I find this such a sad song. I think it's about a person whose life is completely screwed up, in part because of his own faults, personal flaws and mistakes he's made because of these flaws, along with being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and constantly making the wrong decisions. It also seems a little fatalistic, in that the person in question was put on a path destined to fail, one that he was not meant to take. Anyway, I already love it, can't wait to hear more from the new album |

This song is very evocative of the relationship between Hester Prynne and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale from the novel 'The Scarlet Letter'. Basically I think One Caress is about a man who has greatly sinned because of some temptation that a girl he loves has led to his downfall. Now that he's bowed down with guilt and in dark place that he cannot escape, he feels that this girl is the only person capable of understanding him and offering him total absolution or acception. It's actually one of Depeche Mode's darkest songs, in my opinion. |

A lot of Old Who fans have trouble believing that the Doctor fell for a Companion, and I don't blame them... looking at the past 8 Doctors they do seem very cut off and emotionally distant from their Companions. But the new series is better IMO. There's more emotion which makes it more realistic, and there was great chemistry between Rose and both Doctors. It was an extremely beautiful, moving love story - refreshingly sweet and innocent. Reading the lyrics of this song and the ones of 'Song for Ten' just makes me cry, knowing full well that Rose is gone forever. |

When she left he obviously felt very betrayed. |

| This song is extremely rare and incredibly beautiful. It doesn't sound at all like Depeche Mode, more like a Martin Gore single- and a good one at that. It has a sad melancholy beauty about it and Gore's introspective and haunting voice enhances the meaning behind the powerful, poetic lyrics. | |

This song isn't easy to interpret, but here is what I think: First off I do think that the song deals with abuse, but also with the way that children feel as if it is all their fault and therefore find it necessary to hide it. He said that it was from when The cars had smashed so hard The words "he said" are extremely effective. The song does not say "his hair turned white because the cars smashed so hard"... so we don't really know what happened. We only know what the boy said. Same for the girl: "...they'd always just been there" This is the explanation for the birthmarks that are probably not birthmarks. The ending at the end is very ironical. The boy at Mass is embarrassed by his parents' behaviour, but is he really worse off than the other two children? I think the song criticises how child abuse is not prioritised over other trivial things in society. |

ye this song touches my heart like no other DM song has, my rents separated not too long ago, and its as though "Precious" is telling me all the things they're probably feeling at the moment but haven't got the courage yet to speak to me openly... Great, great song.. I can so relate... Morality would frown upon Decency look down upon The scapegoat fate's made of me So full of fatalism, like many other DM songs...aka the feeling that life treats you to a much crueller destiny than other people, one that you also feel you don't deserve. |
