| TISM – Fourteen Years In Rowville Lyrics
| 3 years ago
|
|
A recurring theme in TISM songs is the monotony of suburban life. This song compares the punishment for crime (imprisonment) with the "punishment" of obeying the law - living in suburbia. |

One of the best songs on the first album. Obviously, it's about somebody else imitating him, either as a musician, performer, or just as a person. |

McMuffin - did you see him at Hot BBQ? I did, he was fantastic.
Gotye is a different spelling of Gaultier, which is French for the Flemish name Wouter, which is his real name, Wouter de Backer. |

Agree with Gatsby, and will just add that 'Why Won't You Spay Yourself' is Scott telling them not to reproduce. |

| Filter – Captain Bligh Lyrics
|
scarr, I've read in interviews that it's an allegory for his relationship with Reznor.
Whether they wanted to live in Tahiti, or had no choice, Bligh's men still resembled Patrick in that they'd abandoned their leader and now had to make it on their own. |

| Stone Temple Pilots – Only Dying Lyrics

The band recorded this song as a demo when they were still known as Mighty Joe Young. You can find it on the net.
They re-recorded it (as STP) for the soundtrack of The Crow, but after Brandon Lee was killed on set the title of the song was deemed inappropriate and it was never released.
Great song though. |

| Audioslave – Bring 'Em Back Alive Lyrics

I think it's about the rise of Christianity.
The crowd that bury Icarus are the Christians that slowly drowned out the old Greek and Roman religions. References to Lepers, whom Catholics believed were suffering purgatory on Earth, and being a heathen for thinking support that idea. |

I wouldn't say it's triumphant; more reflective, the moment he's realised what he has to do to turn himself around and what a hard task he has ahead. |

It's about how he's a mess, and he wants the person the song is written for to help rebuild him. Like Steve Austin, but without the gadgets. |

| Army of Anyone – Father Figure Lyrics

It's a classic Filter style anti-religion song, like Dose, or Under, or the STP song Naked Sunday. I hope their next album has a few more dark sounding songs like this. |

| Filter – Captain Bligh Lyrics

Vice Admiral William Bligh was the captain of the H.M.S. Bounty - you may have heard of Mutiny on the Bounty. He was a lenient captain but he had a lot of personality disorders. His crew deserted him so they could live in Tahiti, as opposed to England. That makes me think that for Richard Patrick, Trent's controlling nature is like dreary England, and the grass is greener on the Filter side - so he committed 'mutiny' on the captain of NIN. |

| Filter – Welcome To The Fold Lyrics

the second line is supposed to be 'And think you're great". It does have similarities to Dose, and I think it's Richard attacking religion, and saying it offers as much comfort (and side effects) as alcoholism. |

| Filter – You Walk Away Lyrics

I think it's Richard talking about what it's like to be famous, and how your life becomes the life of the public, and in a way your life ends when everybody loses interest in you. |
