| The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets – Ogdru Jahad Lyrics

We're talking about the 'Ogdru Jahad' here so the song is simply a taste of the kind of ruminations those dudes go through trapped in their stony prison waiting for the time to come when they will be free again. The 'Ogdru' are pretty much Mike Mignola's (Hellboy) version of Lovercraftian ancient gods who once held dominion over the earth and wait to do so again. The 'Frog Legions' seem like Mike's nod to the Lovecraft's deep ones, bent on helping their masters awakening and taking over the earth again. |

| The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets – The Innsmouth Look Lyrics

This song is a sly little parody of the Lovecraft tale 'Shadow over Innsmouth'. The protagonist meets a compelling gal at the 'Esoteric Order of Dagon' and falls under the spell of the 'Innsmouth Look'. In the story many/most people from Innsmouth are actually the children of Hybrid breeding between humans and 'Deep Ones' (lovecraft's creepy submarine servants of Dagon). When they reach a certain age they start developing the 'Innsmouth Look' as their Black Lagoon nature starts to gain ascendence. In the song it's implied that someone can 'get' the Innsmouth look and partake of their 'secrets'. |

| The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets – Please God No Lyrics

As stated by 'thickets' the song seems to refer specifically to the 'Haunter of the Dark' and the lyrics seem to imply a unhappy connection/conversation between the thing from within the Shining Trapezohedron and the 'witness' of it's (inevitably) horrible release. In mythos terms it seems to suggest the release of Nyarlathotep through the gem when the lights fail. I hear two voices in the song alternating from the released Horror and the witness. |
