This song is about lonlieness if anything. This is how i perceived the song. Bob spent a short moment in time with "Johanna" that may have indirectly changed his life to the point that he is on a mission to recall that moment with her. Louise seems to be a mutual friend who has a lover of her own ex: "Just Louise and her lover so entwined And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind" Bob is on a mission to find Johanna retracing all of his previous steps to find her. Louise seems like she is eager to help him find her, but she is also preoccupied with someone else, and is unintentionally rubbing her love in Bobs face. ex: Louise, she's all right, she's just near She's delicate and seems like the mirror But she just makes it all too concise and too clear That Johanna's not here Louise's presence reminds him of the time spent with Johanna, Louise could have possibly been present during the time Bob met Johanna. Bob ditches Louise and her lover to keep searching, asking around untill he finds a kid who may be all too familiar with her (this kid is a fucking punk in my book) the kid is throwing around the idea and bragging about a possible intimate encounter with Johanna to piss Bob off. This kid is no help at all, and it hurts Bob even more bringing up the idea that she is seeing others. By the end of this incident Bob seems to have given up his search just a little bit, now he is drifting from spot to spot. But his visions of Johana have consumed him to the point where he is defined by her memory. He never finds Johanna and his search is a failure, and he has had all these odd and heart wrenching experiences with different people in the proccess, and they all remind him of her |
