close but not right. as the title obviosly states--its about the ghetto. the lines about sending too many people over the ocean and too much money on the moon refers to the misuse of the governments focus and loot that could of been spent on fixing the ghettos. the line about ruining the air is referin to how people blame shit on people in ghettos and i like the part about how "i think they just sit up there and just get high" shows the way people regard people i ghettos. good song. i dig the piano |

Yeah well skynyrd used drugs but I'm pretty sure they never messed with smack. It wasn't mentioned in their bio. An awesome song with a good message and a wonderful solo by Alan. The live version is best. |

I agree with both of you. They aren't sold out, but they need to quit. Five replacement members is too much and now they have gone from drawing all kinds of crowds to now playing mainly a white trashed based crowd.
The song anyway, is a wonderful plea for attention to be drawn to nature. Ronnie really cared and this song shows it. No musicians nowadays would write something like this. |

You can tell when to listen to this song that there was a great Led Zeppelin influence on the lyrics and tune. Great solos. |

Badass song that serves as a tribute to Short Medlocke and the other porch players that Ronnie watched as a young boy. It offers some good advice. |

Its actually about when Ronnie went home and he wanted to relax, his friends kept asking him about his life on the road and the band. He wanted time to relax and fish and this song told people how he felt. He needed some time alone. |

This song is about Phil Walden who tried screwing Skynyrd outta some money. They didn't mention his name because they didn't want o be sued, but if somebody wrote a song like this about me I would feel like shit. The Honkets add a very haunting effect. |

Danny wrote the lyrics except for the
"Sure enough,
they'll be sellin' stuff
When the moon begins to rise.
Pretty bad when
you're dealin' with the man,
And the light shines in your eyes"
In Young's bio he says that the part he added shows how little he knows about smack.
A good song. |

I don't think Freebid should be compared to Stairway, they're two entirely different songs. Freebird has a meaning that is light and deep at the same time. The music is the best part though. The slide plus the two other guitars, bass, drums, and piano allow for all 7 members to shine. I think thats what makes the song--that all the members are badass. The people that say its all solo and its overplayed annoy me; sure it has a long solo but its not just any solo its a very well develop and powerful piece that makes you wanna play air guitar the second you hear it. If you're not into long songs or solos then don't comment on it--this is songs meanings not opinions. The studio version gives the song a bad rap--you need to listen to the 14 and a half minute live version to get everything out of it. |

THIS SONG IS $#%&ING AWESOME!!! I have to say that I am suprized few people have commented on this song. It was in Easy Rider, and this song boosted the band along with Born to be Wild, also from Easy Rider. They didn't write this song though, it was written by a guy who was a student of the woman who wrote Heartbreak Hotel for Elvis. Anyway this song is great to get high to. |

| Lynyrd Skynyrd – That Smell Lyrics

Ok I will set the record straight. This song was on their last album Street Survivors. Allan Collins, Gary Rossington, and Billy Powel all got into car wrecks within a short period of time. Gary hit a tree and a house and was almost killed. Billy wrecked and wither hurt someone really bad or killed them. Allen hit a shopping cart and something else. They were all trying to change their ways and quit drugs. Ronnie Van Zandt just had a daughter and wanted to clean his shit up. The song is on Steve Gains first album with Skynyrd and he tears that shit up with the others.
Now to get some other shit straight. When the plane crashed the band didn't make music for a few years. There was the Collins/Rossington Band with a bunch of the same guys, followed by the Allan Collins bad. Ok now for you fools that messed it up, Collins did get in a lot of wrecks, but his final one was in the mid-1980's after he got drunk and had a fight with his girl, who died. Now this is mid-80's, the band broke up after the wreck and lost Ronnie, who sings in the song, in 78. How could they write a song about him? Sorry to get so indepth here. FUCKIN GOOD SONG |

This is a wonderful song, although most of it isn't played by the band. Their producer played the mandolin and tapped the bass peddle; a studio guy played the harmonica, Ronnie Sang, Leon played bass, and that was it. Great studio song though. |

Yeah I agree with Fluffyinsanity. This song is not about Duane Allman, it was just dedicated to him often. It was on the first album, years before the plane crash!!! The song goes back to something that Allen Collins' girlfriend told him: "If I leave here tomorrow would you still remember me?" Collins went to Ronnie Van Zandt (Lead Singer) and asked him to write lyrics to it. Collins wrote the music and Van Zandt the words. There are two guitars and a slide guitar played by Gary Rossington. They originally played it without a piano intro. One of the best songs of all time. Damn any fool who says it isn't. All this info is in their biography. |
