I'm not sure why but when i really focus on this song, i think of 2 shipwrecked teens In A Storm that love each other. "Two to One" She Dies, or passes out and he thinks shes dead "Static To The Sound Of You and I" The Wind And Rain are thrashing around "You and I Undone, For The Last Time" They are both gonna die. so its self explanatory "And there this was Hiding at the bottom Of your swimming pool Some September" A Reference to the water or death, and how in a swimming pool water is so harmless. but theres this lurking evil thats trying to kill them both in this water. "But don't you think I wish that I could stay Your lips give you away" The Beginning of the repetition that he doesn't want to be rescued because she is already dead. and that her lips are possibly blue, making her seem dead if she actually isnt. "I can hear it A jet engine Through the center of the storm And I'm thinking I'd Prefer not be rescued" The fact that he hears a Jet, and the same repetition that he doesn't want to live while she is dead "Two to none Roads that lead away from this I'm following myself Just this once" Perhaps He Dies or goes unconscious, because its gone from 2 to none, no conscious beings, and theres no escape, hence the roads line. And he's following himself, that makes me think of going into the white light. "And I got spun It appears you're spun as well It happens when you pay attention Or this could take all year" maybe this is a reference to the injuries they incurred in whatever shipwrecked them, maybe they were in a plain that had a tailspin and crashed, and how irrelevant that fact is when youre in Freezing water in a storm. "But when it's quiet Does she hear me? A jet is sent to the center of the storm And I'm thinking I'd prefer not to be rescued" he's questioning if she's dead, maybe this indicates that she is only unconscious, and the added repetition that makes this song seem so strong. "And oh I can feel her She's dying just to keep me cold And I'm finally numb So please don't get me rescued Rescued" She is still there with him in the water, and the dying just to keep me cold line could be an irony, if shes dead or unconscious she cant control who else is cold. and his body is finally so cold its numb. "And it's unclear But this may be my last song" the affirmation that he may die here. "I can tell She's raising hell To give to me She got me warm" maybe he thinks shes fighting for life, this backs up the unconscious Vs dead argument. the she got me warm part could be a body heat reference, or an earlier encounter. maybe she physically got him warm, Sex or just being close to him. or that she got him warm as in aroused, previously "So please don't get me rescued And oh say you'll miss me One last time And I'll be strong Whatever you do Please don't get me rescued" Before she dies he wants her to tell him she'll miss him, and then he said he'll be strong and just wait here until he dies too. "'Cause I'm feeling like I might need to be near you And I feel alright So please don't get me rescued" He's come to terms with the fact that he will die here by her side. and then the song ends. somewhat deppressingly. [Then then next song is "Made For Eachother", Could be a prequel type thing or even a reference to being in heaven with her.] Anywho, thats my take on it... even if its totally wrong, try listening to it with that mindset. its a beautiful Visual |

This is almost my favorite song, adn ive been listening to it over and over again. and some people are mistaken. the River isn't hell. someone said Inferno is related to Hell. IF he is accepting going to hell why would he be running from it as he says. when you listen to the beginning. you realize the setting. this kid (Or man) is trodden on, a nerd, or an outcast. he's like all the mistrated kids. he needs revenge. his dad left him. hes going insane. nobody loves him, hes been turned down. Hes got a job working for next to nothing. and when he sayd Devises (not Devices) he isnt relating to a bomb, its just in the revisionary state so far. Hes driven so far into the ground he's gone crazy, he talks to himself about this bomb, he has to make it. he needs to make it. it'll show them. he's not to be pushed around. Yea Hit the Detonator, then they'll all go. [The River Represents something. maybe death, perhaps something else. he may be wearing a bomb on his body and the building hes in says River something on it] "They'll think im insane, but they'll all know my name" - at this point he's gotten to the point that his whole revenge plan is to show them that he's badass. they'll remember that they pushed him. [and whichever you'd like to believe. he kills them all, or he just kills himself] but him running from the inferno, i cant see that the river could be hell. the second verse he starts talking about the bomb, but when he says burn your family tree down...he's still crazy. he may be saying that to himself. why do you think this song is in the context "~I'll~ take all the blame/They'll think ~I'M~ insane, its because he's talking to himself. He's gone to the edge of where a human can go. i dont think the river actually has any validity, its just a symbol for some form of death. or maybe a reported news bombing near a river... anywho thats my 235 cents |

| I've Got an Update. IN Portland ORegon there is no Freemont and 4th avenue. But there is a Freemont and Martin Luther King Jr. BLVD which ironically is inbetween 3rd and 5th avenue. so the reason why he chose 4th and freemont. instead of anywhere else in that district which is all seedy motels. it because it doesnt exist as a name. Only as a concept. Its something thats there. but you'll never find it if you look and start asking questions. thats like prostitutes. Ok well i only actually read the first and 4th pages here, I'm new by the way. im tired and havent enough fiber to read all this. but P!atd is my Fave Band and what you should realize is that this is not Vegas. Chuck Palahniuk spent a lot of time in Portland oregon. Near Where i live :) and a lot of these songs are about his stuff. IM reading his Book "ABOUT" Portland and they have a 4th and Freemont. With SHitastic Motels there. So what im saying is that this isnt you regular seedy back alley motel that smells like Piss and is a breeding ground for Ho-Bags. Don't Get me wrong it is that bad. But this is a real life experience from chuck. But relating to the story of this thing. I think ive compiled the right list of opinions to make this work out right. 1.) "Virgin" is not a virgin, thats her role.(some guys think thats kinky) She is a HO. Which means she is already Decietful and thats why this is a caricature of intimacy. HO's are like the cheap pretend love. 2.)The Wife Realizes the Lawyer is cheating even though he says it was "Strictly Business" But she needs his Income as an Attorney. 3.) The Purse of a Different Crash has to be a Black Book.Containing names of Clients Because it couldn't be whore money. because her payment from the lawyer was the office Job. Now Shes Trying to live the role of the "Virgin". Denying Reality that she is a HO. (The only other possibility is that she's a Crack Ho and that the constable black mailed her into sex because the purse was Coke or Something, But if you think that your kinda closed minded. it seems deeper than that, she wouldn't have it for no reason.) 4.) After My Version of Point #3, She is Doing her makeup. Runs into a Cop. Falls on her ass. Between her and the Badge Lays. All her things. and shes holding that black book. Enough information to send quite a few people to jail on medium sentences. 5.) theres only 2 possibilities left. The Cop Blackmails her for Sex, Against the Black Book as Evidence. Or He wants to Get the Attorney in trouble. Which would turn this into an elaborate Crime Story. SO id go with the Cop is Blackmailing her against the Black Book Of Clients. |
