i think that this song is about waters and not syd. I think of the "golden boy" part as sarcasm, and that he thinks waters was the one all the fans payed attention to. I think that when he says " why did we always tell you that you that you would never lose that light in your eyes" means because everyone knew the wall, the dark side of the moon, and animals, were mostly written by waters, that he let it go to his head and think he was better than everyone else in the band.
the second stanza I think is about how he thought he was in control of the band and the leader and making everyone else in the band feel like crap, but waters just wanted more success and didn't care,
I think the last part means even though he's pissed at waters, the years he was in the band still were some of the best years of gilmours life. The very last line means to me that gilmour loved waters, and looked up to him a lot. |
