NOFX – You're Wrong Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, in the MP3 from Fat Wreck, Mike says Buddhists are wrong because they believe in God. Well, Mike is wrong, since Buddhists don't believe in God...

We're all wrong. Maybe that's the point.

Lagwagon – Leave The Light On Lyrics 15 years ago
That quote at the end is from "Welcome to the Dollhouse".....

Also, WTF is with these wall of text lyrics? Is splitting the song into lines that difficult?

Bob Dylan – Mr. Tambourine Man Lyrics 16 years ago
The" clown chasing shadows" lines remind me of Plato's Cave allegory. In it, people are imprisoned in a cave since birth and can only see shadows on a wall. Then that person is released into the real world. What they previously believed was reality was blown away.

It sort of reminds me of what it's like to do drugs. Not that I condone them, but that is what drugs are like: a new reality. It's impossible to explain to someone who has never done them.

TV on the Radio – I Was a Lover Lyrics 16 years ago
Since when was the US all lovers before 9/11? That's a weak analysis. The other political stuff is just vague enough to be interpreted that way. George Bush doing coke barricaded in his luxury suite? That's a ridiculous analysis. If this IS a political song, it's not a very good one.

I like the interpretation that it is about a relationship going bad.

Botch – God Vs. Science Lyrics 16 years ago
They are from the movie Ghandi:

Here is the entire quote:

"In this cause, I too am prepared to die, but my friends, there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill. Whatever they do to us, we will attack no one, kill no one. They will imprison us; they will fine us; they will seize our possessions; but they cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them. I am asking you to fight against their anger, not to provoke it. We will not strike a blow, but we will receive them; and through our pain, we will make them see their injustice. And it will hurt, as all fighting hurts. But we cannot lose. They may torture my body, break my bones, even kill me-then they will have my dead body, not my obedience."

Botch – C. Thomas Howell as the "Soul Man" Lyrics 16 years ago
"Soul Man" was an 80's comedy about a white guy, played by C. Thomas Howell, who pretends to be black to get a college scholarship. He's plays the character in black face. It's pretty offensive.

I guess that makes the song about being someone else for financial reasons.

Uh, a bunch of Japanese cars are made in the United States while a bunch of GM and Ford cars are made in Mexico. How is THAT for globalization?

In the second to last verse, it's supposed to be "month" not "place".

Butthole Surfers – Goofy's Concern Lyrics 17 years ago
It's kind of a love song. The last line seals it.

"All I ever fuckin' think about is you"

He doesn't care about any of that stuff, he just cares about [you].

Piebald – American Hearts Lyrics 17 years ago
While the song is catchy, it represents all that is wrong with punk music. People would rather complain than actually fix something. The singer says, "I did not create the rules", washing his hands of any responsibility. And then he whines about his heart being broken. Fucking emo garbage.

The Coup – We Are The Ones Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this line is wrong.

"There was all of this hell well and not one hero"

It should be "There was all of this heroine and not one hero", which would make sense.

Dead Kennedys – Chickenshit Conformist Lyrics 17 years ago
Holy shit. We have a guy with the name Zyklon-B posting? Am I the only one that noticed? That was the name of the chemical the Nazis gassed the Jews with. Get that shit out of here.

I've been in the punk scene long enough to watch the scene die. I remember in 1999 going to a show and seeing 4 mohawk, leather jacket punks all getting into a new (at the time) Mustang convertible.
Where I'm from, punk is just about getting drunk and fighting. Against Me is from the town where I live, but they are an anomaly. The local bands don't care or they care until they've had too much to drink.

It's no different that what any teenagers and college kids do. Almost all kids are into music and fashion and socializing. It doesn't matter what the uniform is. The same company owns the Gap and Hot Topic.

Nelly – Grillz Lyrics 18 years ago
It's funny how rappers take nice things and make them totally ridiculous.

Nice wheels on your car are cool, so putting 26" wheels on a car so that the suspension needs to be lifted to look like a truck is better. Having nice teeth is good, so having platinum coated teeth with diamonds and shit on them must be better. Having nice jewelry is nice, so having a bunch of huge, ugly diamonds and 20 platinum chains must be better.

Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics 18 years ago
"When their housemaids scrub the floors / they get the spaces in between"

That line is so pointless it makes me cringe. What makes a great song great is every lyric meaning something important. What utter shit this song is. Reminds me of the terrible, repetitive "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett.

Rob a jewelry store but be sure to give them your dental records beforehand. Holy shit, what a stupid concept. I bet the cops would have a real hard time tracking you down afterwards.

The Clash – Hitsville U.K. Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about the beginning of independent record labels.

Small Wonder was an indie record label that brought us The Cure.

Rough Trade was another label that helped make The Smiths famous.

Factory brought us Joy Division/New Order and the Happy Mondays.

It's amazing what Google and 5 minutes of research will do.
