as you all know 'the downward spiral' is about a guy spiraling downward in life. in 'piggy' the guy is a drug addict as we see in the line "i lost all of my shit because of you" and in the lines "all of my fears came true
black and blue and broken bones you left me here all alone" we see that he's been beaten up by the 'pig' (cop) and he is all bruised and has broken bones and all. there have been many references as pigs being cops in earlier music.. for example we have the band "Pig Destroyer"..
in the last lines "nothing can stop me now because i don't care" is about him not a giving a shit because, he's already a drug addict, made numb by this world and has no one in his life - "... you've left here all alone" |

'darker' side of things. i haven't heard the sisters of mercy version but the song is absolutely amazing. no time to cry is about putting everything away that hurts you and moving on with what you gotta do because what you gotta do is what you gotta do. i find it really weird that cof did a song which actually has a 'positive' meaning. |

everyone has his or her own perception of this song. the many different ways people can relate to it, that's the many different versions of the song interpretations.
i personally believe that the 'machine' is the society. how things works. the 'boringness' of the static society. even rage against the machine used the word machine in the same boundary. the machine operators "everyday people who are brought up on other peoples thoughts and haven't thought about anything on their own" are welcoming a new 'child' to the 'machine'.
they ask the child where he's been but they think they already know where he's been.
"What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream.".. the machine.. the society and the culture of a place are trying to keep the child WITHIN the boundaries and the limits of their culture.
i could be wrong but i come from a fucked up culture and me being an outcast of it feel that this song is about what i've said. oh well, it's a great song. fucking amazing. pink floyd's simply the most creative writers on the face of this planet. |
