I want to argue with you both because of my undying loyalty to this band...I mean it's like they drug me out of slumber with their first album...no music before or since has EVER affected me the way that bullets did. and i do like this song, a lot, even if it is queen- influenced. I don't see anything wrong with them doing a song like that especially when the lyrics are so Gerard. However, I haven't heard any of the other new songs because I wanted to wait until the album came out so I could hear them the way the band meant for them to be heard...maybe I should download a few so I can make a more educated arguement. Still, these guys are my band, and I feel as if everyone is turning their backs on them because they're trying to evolve.... |

ok people, it's like this. who cares what they are? does anyone remember when you could just appreciate music because it was music, and not have to categorize it into eighty million different little subdivisions and then critique as to whether or not it has stayed true to that little subdivision? what bullshit, it ruins the music! listen to this song, people, close your fucking eyes and really listen to this song!!! don't you see how absolutely beautiful it is? Can't you hear how hard they worked, and how much they mean this song, in every lyric, every drumbeat, every riff, how could ANYone say that this is not MCR? of course it is!! They poured their hearts and souls into this song just like all their other ones, and if you listen well enough you can here that. Thank god that this is a band who can evolve and spread its message to growing numbers of fans...if anyone watched Life on the Murder Scene, they would know that the whole reason the band was formed was to spread their message and save lives...and how true they are staying to themselves. but i know that i'm preaching to the choir here because true fans are not going to turn their backs on MCR because they have the ability to evolve and create something truly spectacular. |

i don't care what anyone says, i love this band and will always support them. i have struggled with a couple of their songs, but i refuse to judge them based on what i think they should be and what direction i feel they should go. who the hell am i, anyway? the facts remain: 90% of their music is sheer genius. they evoke emotions within people that we didn't even know were there to begin with. i don't agree with everything gerard sings, and i don't adore every single one of their songs. but the fact remains, that whatever my chem song you listen to, it has one common denominator with the rest--he means it! gerard way puts 110% into every lyric of every song, and good for him! and the rest of the band...damn the music itself can have you floating away, and just by looking at them when they perform, you can tell how therapeutic making music is for them! i've never got that from any other band. there is something special about mcr, and i am very thankful that i discovered them. thanks! |

i think that i'm about to vomit. Fine, I will try to make my arguement a little more clear. George W. Bush is the worst thing that has ever happened to America. Where do I even begin? He knew that we were going to be attacked, did nothing to stop it, (this has been proven), and only spent about 5-6 months even pretending to go after Osama Bin Laden. After that, he decided to finish his fathers war, and declared that Iraq possessed "weapons of mass desruction". looking into the future, we all know that Iraq in fact had no such weapons, they certainly never tried to attack us and had absolutely nothing to do with the Taliban OR Osama Bin Laden. It has also now come out that Bush planned in advance when exactly we were going to start bombing Iraq and never had any intention of NOT boming Iraq. Now our soldiers have been over there getting killed for three years and we have nothing to show for this. There were never any weapons and all we did was arrest Saddam Hussein, who never did anything to us. Bush lies to this country over and over again. He never even got elected in the first place! Al Gore WON the popular vote for the 2000 election! Then Dubbya got all whiny, demanded a recount, and BOOM! all of a sudden votes were misplaced, thrown away, people were confused, and we end up with this moron. The only reason that he got elected the second time is because he took up this anti gay banner and waved it around, pretending to be a Christian man with values! Well, I, for one don't give a good god damn if gays get married or not. its not like getting married will make them reproduce more gays or anything. who fucking cares? well all of the narrowminded redneck fucks in america cared and elected this fucking idiot. he liked nascar and hated gays. diggity dog damn do we've got ourselves a president! hmm. i do see your point, and a lot of the songs are very introspective. but i don't think that they're saying that life is shit. a lot of the lyrics are really dark, which is cool for me, because my life consists of putting on a big smile everyday-smiles for my friends, coworkers, kids, husband, etc. i run and run and run and always have to be in a good goddamned mood because somebody else always seems to need something. now, i love my life and wouldn't trade it for anything. but its a huge relief to be able to get in the car and blast headfirst for halos as loud as i want to on the way home. i am veering off subject. anyway, the lyrics are dark, but the manner in which they are sung and the songs are played-just by listening, you can tell how therapeutic it is for them to be getting it all out. and for me, that's one of the band's messages-look, you can let it out, you can be yourself, you don't have to be perfect,we aren't either, so lets rock out together and feel just a little bit more serenity. also the lyrics are absurdly beautiful and the images they project in my head are awe inspiring. (as you can tell, yes, i'm a huge fan). furthermore, if you do just a little research into these guys-they are genuinely good people. they don't have the typical rock star attitude, they genuinely care about their fans and the rest of the world. when katrina hit, they told people to quit buying their albums and donate to the relief effort. they make an effort at every show to meet every fan that wants to meet them. they aren't just out there to make money, they genuinely want to help people. and their fans can tell this, and thats why we are so loyal-because we know that collectively we really mean something to them. anyway, as you can probably tell, i could write for hours on this subject and never get as tired as i'm sure i'm making all of you. but i really did mean it, i wasn't trying to be sarcastic. i do respect your opinion of the band, just because they're for me doesn't mean i'm trying to push them on you. i've always loved music of all types but when i first heard mcr, i knew that was it for me. i've never taken to a particular band before, and these guys just clicked in my head for whatever reason. go figure. |

i really wish that i could log on more often so i could keep up better...anyway. og_tool, i respect your opinions and do not begrudge the fact that you don't like MCR. I happen to think that they are the greatest band ever, but I also believe that you either understand them or you don't. you evidently do not get the message that they are putting out, which would have to be the only reason you made some of these comments about them. i wish people would stop categorizing them as "emo" and making immediate judgements because whether they fit into the genre or not, they have one of the most original sounds that i have ever heard and should be able to stand on their own. and their message is not despair and suicide...its looking beyond the terror and despair that the world is inherently full of and trying to see the redemption life offers. but about this song....your arguments are kind of okay and i see where they're going, but its not like we're at an ancient fertility festival or whatever...one of the greatest things about women is that we are so many things at once. for example, we can be intelligent, ditzy, compassionate, catty, witty, or depressingly serious. and it is okay to be sexy, i love to be love my sexuality and revel in my feminity. however, in order to "celebrate sexiness" you cannot disgrace it. and that is where so many women cross the line. its not sexy to get up in front of a bunch of people half nude and shake your ass. MYSTERY is sexy, CONFIDENCE is sexy, but to me the sexiest thing of all is self respect. this song might express some confidence here, but it's the wrong kind. if the only thing you can be confident of is that you can use and abuse your body in order to make men fall over like dogs in heat and give you stuff, then you don't have ANY confidence at all in any other aspects of yourself. i'm sorry, but it sends a horrible message. |
