Jethro Tull – Aqualung Lyrics 20 years ago
first of all its 'SOT'..not SOD

Sot x Google= Alky-hawlik
SodX Google= grass/turf

drying in the cold sun: using intense intertwined opposing meanings to romance the imagination
i.e. Led Zeppelin
Alice in Chains
the first tool of the writer is to capture our attention.
if someone says 'babies'...its like hearing the word 'and'
if someone says 'dead babies'..you dont hear..you SEE.

so Ian, or Ian's wife, or Ian and his wife..could have written "Drying in the sun"
or "Drying in the cold sun..."

you get my drift...

IMHO this song is the imaginative portrayal of Ian Anderson's reflections of his life's observances. I believe he did himself, along with his wifes collaberation, hence the credit, write the tune.

I believe he wrote the lyrics AFTER the melody.

I believe it is one of three 'Jethro Tull' signature songs.

As far as a 'deeper meaning', I don't see it, other than
it did break some ground with the reference to the pedophilia. Until then, THIS song...I doubt anyone had ever blatantly spoke to it, in the pop-media.

Also, on a personal but widely related to note...I related to the way Ian describes some of 'the world'...and how much of it was 'untalked' about..this
song cried to the 'justice seeker' in me...and warned of
the dangers of living in alleys...HAW HAW...

Bob Dylan – It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) Lyrics 20 years ago
Rag-Land's take on Roger is great..play-doh...ha ha (same thing as LOL)
to me, this is one of the precious few songs Mr.Dylan actually brought back home, so that even the 'un-enlightened' could make some sense out of..but talking Dylan is like talkin politics. Not many folks can 'hear' the Kennedy assasination in Desolation Row without some coaching..but 'It's Allright Ma' comes with
instructions, and a toolkit.
As has been eluded to, one of Mr. Dylan's best all time tunes..right up there with Gates of Eden.
as a side note, Mr. Dylan seemed to be enjoying his ability to draw pictures with words on this album. In the following years he travelled towards storylines-Wicked Messenger, Pat Garrett, etc.
This was the era that put him on the map. The rest
were just different directions on how to get there.

Jethro Tull – Locomotive Breath Lyrics 20 years ago
I first heard of Jethro Tull on the bus on the way home from school, I was into The Allman brothers, and Richard Kelly was into..Tull. the year, 1972.
The 'train' (Casey jones you better...watch your speed) is
cocaine.
Lococmotive breath=hyperventilation from too much blow, i.e. "Am I stil breathing?"
It wasn't cool then to say "I like drugs" just like now.
When Nixon found out the meaning behind "with a little help fom my friends" he denounced the Beatles.

The details of this song aren't important, really..but draw your own conclusions..

feeling the piston scraping=an engine with no oil WILL blow up
steam on the brow=perspiration from too much blow, too many times.
The reference to 'train'=cocaine was very popular at the time..in the convenience stores they actually sold little canisters of 'fake' lemon and orange flavored white snuff..I remember it well, cokeheads used it for 'cut'

The Grateful Dead had a hit at that time, Ridin that train.

the best reference in this song is the part about NO way to slow down...
a clear reference to addiction=no way to slow down

anybody ever try to cut back on an addcition..it doenst work
you have to quit.

Ian Anderson liked drug and vagabond songs.

very few pedophile references, but Ian didnt care..
