I think the song is supposed to be observing the situation, stating finally that we must simply "turn towards the light." When it comes to things like this there is a somewhat obvious moral tendency to not do whatever is in question, in this case stem cell experimentation, simply because it involves unnatural actions and killing of things. I think it is for that reason that the last line is pro stem cell research, because they had to end with one or the other and it figures to leave with a line that leaves the most ambiguity.
I think that ambiguity is the most important part of this song, with the intro flooding the listener with fluttering keyboard riffs and voice clips, sort of clearing your mind of any existing bias towards the topic. That's just my opinion on the intro anyway. The song is probably not meant to take any side, as it presents clips of both sides of the argument, though if anything I would bet on the band members being against stem cell research just because they wrote a song about it, it's just the norm really.
I think the song isn't as much about side-taking as it is about taking the right/moral path. The actual lyrics put emphasis on simply doing the right thing, and they question if stem cell research is justified while also suggesting the potential positive outcomes. To me it sort of represents any major moral dilemma where what's right and wrong is ultimately a matter of opinion, simply because both sides have massive amounts of justification and opinions on them are so divided. |

There are lots of things I love about this song, but right now, listening to it loud as hell, one thing is certain. THE GUITAR SOLO AT 7:09 COULD STOP A FUCKING FREIGHT TRAIN DEAD IN ITS FUCKING TRACKS. End of story. |

Watch this one live on the Hullabaloo DVD, I'm not so sure the piano should have been transposed onto guitar, but the bass in it sounds amazing, just by adding a few effects the song become much, much stronger. Matt adds a second mini guitar solo at the end too which sounds really crazy, the song in general just kicks so much more ass live. Not like it isn't already awesome though, don't get me wrong :P |

This song isn't about war, or love in general, or anything like that, if you read up about the whole blink break-up and the feelings or mark and tom, tom in this case, you'll find out that the movie and the album in general (and to a degree, this song as well) are about a "war", but not a typical war; the war is supposed to sybolise the suffering that mark and tom's relationship suffered because of their dispute over Boxcar Racer. It's about the love that there once was between them that has now been destroyed by a "war" that is still going on because they still haven't made up yet, and in a more general sense it's about how love between anyone can sometimes suffer a similar fate. There are parts of the song which this doesn't quite explain, but I know from reading up about it that it is about mark and tom, look closely and you'll get it, trust me ;) |
