all in all this my very well be the greatest cure song ever written. very deep meanings expressed so powerfully and poetic. everyone has good comments about their interpretation's of the song but i am forced to disagree with electioneering and bradleyb on their interpretation's of the phrase party piece. it was clear from the first time i listened to this song that letting go his party piece is an expression of wanting to have sex. party piece being male genitalia which he wants to use to "cut in deep" into "a younger meat" the theme of the song is all about becoming bored with a difficult relationship and wanting to end it in hopes of finding the lost excitement of of day of freedom and debauchery. yet is afraid to leave the familiar though tragic relationship he is in. thus we come back to the point of breaking apart again over and over again unable to leave even though it is clear how the ending will be. |
