To me, this song is all about making a mockery of sex. It doesn't seem to be "making love" anymore, but that people use it as a tool. "what a wonderful caricature of intimacy" in other words we're making fun of this intimate action. the virgin's throwing it away in a sleezy motel for a job, the lawyer actually giving her a job to get a piece. About the purse, what i'm thinking, is she's probably drugged herself up to cope with what she's doing, so when she runs into the cop, she drops the drugs. So at this point she figures screw it and does it again to get out of trouble. the end "there are no raindrops and roses and girls in white dresses" is showing a loss of innocence (btw the line is definatly from the sound of music and not fight club). raindrops on roses gives the imagery of romance and girls in white dresses means virgins, these things don't exist anymore is what the song is saying to me. and for the prostitute thing... prostitution IS NOT illegal, just the solicitation of it is, so the cop couldn't get her in trouble if she wasn't standing on a street corner. |
