i love this song so much. her voice sounds really calm and sad in this one. especially in the 'soon you can call the police, i'm sorry for my manners.....' i'm not sure about any of you, but i think this song just has to do with personal wars of choosing what's good and bad for you, and in this song's case it has to do with alcohol, drugs, and sex. and in this song, 'i gave my heart to rock n roll' means really that she completely gave herself away not knowing that the hurt she's experiencing is the consequence. so basically, this song is just about knowing that you've fucked up a lot. |

comments: this song is just amazing. i love the intro. mat devine, as always, has a truly wonderful voice. meaning: i believe this song is about a race between two guys [or possibly just one coaching himsel while going] after one girl. and then in the chorus, it's pretty obvious. 'big shot, yeah, i want to be with you' everybody wants her. and she knows it. hence, big shot. 'at 17, they all hated her and me' everybody hated them because they were jealous of their relationship 'that skinny thing...' the rest of the verse is talking about how one day she will be famous and anybody who never made a move will regret it. |

this song's lyrics had always confused me, but i think i kind of figured it out. "When he said "I hope you're sleeping better knowing that I never sleep at all" did you reply with that smile I know this can't be what you had in mind I guess you'll try it all again next fall you'll feel better on the day that he dies" i think that's about a girl that likes to mess with guys' minds and finds pleasure in it. here, jamison is talking to the girl. "so when you're pulling on your trendy clothes and humming every stupid note to this song that's on your mixtape that we're singing oh so loud yeah we're singin' now" i always thought that it was the instead of this song, because it sounds like it's a song that the guy wrote for her and she still likes even though the relationship is over. jamison is still talking to the girl. "When she said "you gotta make your plans, to start making plans alone" maybe we will and maybe we won't and you know you're gonna paint the town red with all of your blood she stole on the night of the murder when she left you alone" here, jamison is talking to the guy. it sounds like the girl either killed him or the guy committed suicide because of the girl. i think it's about a guy trying to tell a girl to keep her head up. she's fine just the way she is, content with her life, or so it seems like in this song. but on the inside, she's hurt by what other people say about her, or what people around her are doing. and/or is a bit insecure. "Don't let it pull you down Don't let it burn you out You're so much stronger than you know" and then it's "Down here time moves so slow Life could pass you by and you wouldn't know, who wouldn't know Things change, but they rarely do You count the days as they barely move, well do what you have to" which i think means that he's trying to say that life is short, so make it worthwhile. stay with him, or just leave. "well do what you have to" yeah, thats pretty much what i think. |
