Vienna Teng – Whatever You Want Lyrics 15 years ago
Wow, I really like your interpretation! I had originally thought this song was 3 stories, but that didn't make sense to me, you know? The way you linked them really made it click in my head. So, thank you :)

But I have a question, if I may ask. "He" is the accountant, "she" is his wife, and "you" are the boss and husband...but who am "I"? "I am the last one you'd ever suspect/of setting the fire/but as you switch on your t.v. tomorrow morning/you'll hear me saying quietly"...who am "I"?

Skillet – The Thirst Is Taking Over Lyrics 16 years ago
ok, I know that Skillet is a religious band, and that this song is about the band's love of God...

but does anyone else hear this song and think it sounds very, very sexual?

I've heard from my Christian ffriends how powerful and passionate their love for God can be, and maybe it's just that I'm not religious and therefore cannot imagine it, but to me everything about this song is, basically, about sex, physyical love of another person, possibly even fellacio (erm, hi..."swallow your beauty whole"?)

I'm sorry if I offended anyone (well, actually I'm not really, since this is all obviously just my opinion and I would hope everyone could recognize that... but yeah, it's a nice sentiment, right? lol)

Thirst is Taking Over = song about sex

to me

sorry

Vienna Teng – Lullabye for a Stormy Night Lyrics 16 years ago
Does anyone know who Tiffany Shih(?), the little girl who joins in to sing with her at the end, is? She has the same last name as Vienna (her real name, I mean, since Vienna Teng is a psyeudonym), o I was thinking maybe little sister? But I don't know...anyone?

Vienna Teng – City Hall Lyrics 16 years ago
I absolutely adore Vienna Teng, and it pains me that she's not a hugely popular artist. This song is absolutely genius, catchy, and uplifting. I often put all 3 of her CDs on shuffle, and the first couple times I heard this one I only really remembered the "Oh-oh-ohhh" bits, but once I got to listen to it properly I was blown away by both the message and the exectution. She's amazing, nuff said.

Nickelback – Too Bad Lyrics 16 years ago
This song makes me think of these two boys I know. They have the same mom, but different mothers. The older boy's mom left when she found out the dad had had an affair while on deployment with the Marines and had gotten another woman pregnant. She left right away and the other woman left the baby with the dad and left, too. So both the boys grew up without moms, and they both knew they had been abandoned. So this song really remind me of them, and it makes me kind of sad T_T

Nickelback – Too Bad Lyrics 16 years ago
is it really necessary for you to go to a song or band you don't like and purposely talk crap? if you don't like Nickelback, then why are you here? go to whatever band you DO like and be happy with other people who like it, instead of trying to change people here who obviously LIKE Nickelback. just don't make waves, yo.

Nickelback – Because Of You Lyrics 17 years ago
to me, this is just a general song of bitterness. The singer is saying that he's sick of being called to bail someone out of their troubles all the time, but even though he knows he can't help he still shows up. Depending on the listener, it can be interpreted as drug abuse, self-mutilation, etc. That's something I find to be quite genius about Nickelback - they write lyrics that can apply to several situations so that the people listening can hear what the want to hear.

"you roll me you use me you love me you love me ad then you wrap me up and reel me in and use me again you love me you hate me you say it's the end I know you're gonna do it again and again and again heeeey!!" sounds like someone addicted to pot, no? or some other drug you roll and smoke... any ideas?

oh, and Party Up... people call getting high partying, so maybe it's a play on pressure o party/get high? "drink up"="party up!"??

Franz Ferdinand – Come on Home Lyrics 18 years ago
For some reason, the first time I heard this soong, I thought of a gay couple in which one member has to go away to the military, and the one who doesn't is singing. And so, here is my little rendition of "Come on Home"s meaning.

"Although my lover lives
In a place that I can't live
I kinda find I like a life
This lonely
It rips and pierces me
In places I cant see
I love the rip of nerves
The rip that wakes me"

He's saying his lover is away on deployment right now, and he therefore can't be with him. But, regardless, life is okay, because the pain of his lover being away makes him only love him more. (I always manage to find gay undertones in FF songs, esp. after hearing "Michael", but the "rip that wakes me" is, IMO, the small stretch and rip of flesh during gay sex.)

"So I'm dissatisfied
I love dissatisfied
I love to feel there's always more that I need"

He can be with all the other boys he wants while his lover is away. He likes his lover being away because he can pull the "but I'm so alone!" defense when he sleeps with other guys.

"So come on home
So come on home
So come on - home home"

He wants his lover with him because he is lonely, but at the same time, he repeats the plea so quietly and solemnly because the time when he is away gives him all the time in the world for extra lovin'.

"You're where you want to be
I'm where I want to be
Come on we're chasing
Everything we've ever wanted"

He's saying that they're apart for a reason, because the other is in the military, and he had to sign up to be in the military, so he'd obviously rather be there than with the singer, at home. Then he says they're chasing what they want, because the soldier is chasing bad guys at war, and the singer is chasing boys at home, but they still have a life together.

"Replace you easily
Replace pathetically
I flirt with every flighty thing
That falls my way
But how I needed you
When I needed you
Let's not forget
We are so strong
So bloody strong "

Here is where he's talking about the affairs. He "replaces" his lover with all these other people, but even though it's easy for him to fing these replacements because he flirts so much, none of them are his lover, so in the end they're just someone to fuck. Then he switches gears and kind of says he is doing all this because he is angry at the military lover, because he is always away and not with him. He has to remind himself how strong their relationship is, and that they can make it through anything.

"Come on home
So come on home
So come on - home, home"

See above. (^)

"Moon light falls
Upon your perfect skin
Falls and you draw back again
Falls and this is how I felt
And I cannot forget
And I cannot forget"

Moonlight, the usual lighting during a sexual encounter. These boys he's with are beautiful, but they're not his love. So there's a kind of metaphor about how it feels to have his lover always coming and going in the service, signified through a sexual metaphor. (Thrusting during sex could be used as a metaphor for the lover leaving then coming back, and how their passion and love is so strong when they're together, but when he's gone there's nothing really there.) But no matter how many times this happens, he cannot forget how amazing their love is.

"Come on home
So come on home
But don't forget to leave"

Again, as before, he's calling his lover home because he loves him so much, but then he tells him to leave, because he has to go again to serve his country.

Iron Maiden – Hallowed Be Thy Name Lyrics 19 years ago
This just what a man awaiting death by hanging is thinking, similar to "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica. One of my all time favorite Iron Maiden tracks. Bruce Dickinsons vocals are superb in this song. This track was off the album "Number of the Beast", which was Dickinsons first album with Iron Maiden, and I think this song proved him worthy for the band after their previous vocalist left. I LOVE YOU BRUCE DICKINSON!!!! XD

The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby Lyrics 19 years ago
You know that philosophy that nothing exists until it is seen? For example, one could argue that until one sees this post on this site, it would not exist. Or, one could say there is no war because they have not seen it. I don't personally believe this philosophy (at least not to the extreme of my second example), but I think something like that is being conveyed in Eleanor Rigby. It's evidenced in any lines that denote nonchalance (i.e. "Nobody came" "No-one was saved" "What does he care?") It's like Eleanor Rigby hasn't been seen, and therefore doesn't exist, which is why no one came to her funeral. And Father McKenzie has never been seen or heard, so his sermons don't matter to anyone. I must say, I love the line "Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door", because I can just imagine how that face must look, even though I couldn't describe it to save my soul. The line also goes back to what I said before--if Eleanor Rigby keeps her face in a jar by the door, it can't be seen by anyone (Except while she's waiting at the window... but who would see her there?) So there you have it. Once again the Beatles prove that even the simplest lyrics can have profound meanings. Good Job John, Paul, George, and Ringo. You all rule!! ^^ (And Pete Best--you might've gotten kicked out, but you were still great, regardless. We appreciate your work, because had it not been for you the Beatles might've never found Ringo and gotten famous. Pete is 'Best'!!)

The Killers – Andy, You're a Star Lyrics 19 years ago
I definitely sensed some gay undertones in this song. I thought it sounded sorta like a guy who liked a jock and watched him work out and practice and stuff. I also kinda got the impression that the jock was gay too, as he says "on the match with the boys you think you're alone". I kinda got the impression that maybe the jock would be practicing with the guys and would get "excited", and the guy who watches him would notice and be encourage by this. The "hey shut up"s are, I think, maybe the jock protecting the other guy coz he might be called a fag or something. I always kinda thought it was like the movie "Get Real", where the school "fag" and the school "jock" are going out but the jock pretends not to be with him in public. Like that line "In the car with a girl promise me she's not your world", he's saying go ahead and pretend to be straight, but don't stop loving me. Just my impression though. Any thoughts?

Franz Ferdinand – What You Meant Lyrics 19 years ago
Have you ever listened to any of FF's other lyrics and gotten the impression they might be gay? (i.e. the constantly censored "Do You Want To" line that says "Your famous friend, well I blew him before you" or the song "Michael"?) Well, I have, and not just those two songs either, but we're talking about "What You Meant" here, so I'll get to the point.

I didn't really understand the first verse at first, but I do now. However, I am going to explain it at the end of this long-ass rant so everything makes sense. Okay?

However, the second verse has more meaning. I'm not sure who Alec is (kudos to pro-voice for thinking it might be Mr Kapranos himself), but I took it as meaning a man talking to his lover. The pill is a reference to the MDMA they mention, which is the illegal drug found most commonly in Ecstasy. E is found all over the place, but it is a club drug at heart and is very common in gay clubs (think Babylon in Queer As Folk). Also, the mention of red stuff was, I thought, a reference to blood, which is as common in gay sex as semen, so for these gay lovers to talk instead of fucking is cruel to them. *shrug* Just how I took it, okay?

Now, the third part. Feckless basically just means reckless (why they didn't just say that is beyond me), and there are a lot of gay men who get angry because they get HIV or something else even when they're safe, whereas all their friends go out and party unsafely and are fine. So he's saying that if they'd never bothered with protection, nothing would have ever happened to them, but because they did, or were bright in their decline, they are now sick. And if you really need me to explain the significance of the word "sucking", go away. O.O;

Fourth stanza: Blood inside the vein basically means the penis become erect by filling with blood (he's getting a hard-on). "Life inside the ligament"=fancier way of saying the same thing. When he says "I feel alive yeah just the same/Same vigour and the same intent", he's saying even though you're a guy and so am I, I still feel like you're hot and we should GET IT ON. He's just describing that he's having sex with a guy, but it feels no different from how having sex with a girl is supposed to feel.

Now, for the first part. I think when whoever-it-is says "we're cold as the step cement", he might be referring to having been found positive for an STD, which means they are probably BOTH positive. He is kind of saying that they are "cold" as in practially dead, because they consider HIV or AIDS to be a total death sentence.

Lemme know what u think of this interpretation at: lotsayaoi@yahoo.com. Luv Luv!! ^__^

Franz Ferdinand – Auf Achse Lyrics 19 years ago
I always thought the song sounded like Jesus thinking about the people He is trying to save. All the "You ___ her, you can't ___ her" stuff is Him talking about all the things He wishes He could do for His people. Then at the end, it's His last thoughts before He dies, and doubting whether His Father's prophecies about rising from the graves and ascending to Heaven will come true stemming from His natural fear of death. Just what I got out of it.

Metallica – Enter Sandman Lyrics 20 years ago
I think your right about what this song's lyrics mean--it's not that hard to figure it out--but to me all this song represents is the pathetic downward spiral of the Metallica I grew up with. My fvorite song when I was like six was Master of Puppets, because that is what I had grown up with. To me, Kill 'Em All through ...And Justice for All is Metallica, and everything from the "Black Album" on is CRAP. It signifies the most awesome band in the universe succumbing to the very thing most of their songs defended against--conformity. I hate this song, and every other after it. Nothing beats old-school. Horn Up!
