Aberfeldy – Helioplis By Night Lyrics 17 years ago
It is called "Heliopolis By Night", not "Helioplis". You managed to spell it correctly half the time in the lyrics, but people searching for this song won't be able to find it here.

I very much agree with the guys above me... If you are reading this and don't have this song, you should email one of us [I'm ste_mann (at) hotmail (dot) com]. This must be pretty rare, if it's not even on zero methos. It sounds a little like a disjointed Birds vs. Worms; saying some random poetry over the music.

Brings a whole new meaning to the term 'lo-fi'.

The Small Faces – the autumn stone Lyrics 18 years ago
How can there be no comments on one of the greatest and least known love songs ever written??

Unfortunately I'm terrible at interpreting things like poetry, and this is a very poetic song I think, it's very beautiful; "tomorrow changes, fields of green today," "the sweetest spring dawn morning sings to me." ...with music to match. This will be one of favourites forever.

Rihanna – Umbrella Lyrics 18 years ago
Further to mochalox's ponderings, there seems to me to be some hidden meaning in the lyrics referencing that most nefarious of fictional business conglomerates, the Umbrella Corporation of the Resident Evil series of computer games, films, and various other media.

Consider:

"These fancy things, will never come in between
You're part of my entity, here for Infinity "

These weapons and high-tech gadgetry with which you are attempting to destroy the zombies and zomboids created by the T-Virus will never work, you are trapped "here for Infinity" in the Arklay Research Facility.

"When the war has took it's part
When the world has dealt it's cards
If the hand is hard, together we'll mend your heart "

Clearly "mend" here should read "melt", to rhyme with "dealt" in the previous lines. This part of the stanza is clearly about the post-apocalyptic tundra-desert-world of the film "Resident Evil: Extinction" where the world revolves around "TURANGA", a kind of card game played by everyone everywhere [This plot theme is clearly an homage to Philip K. Dick]. In the end, losing the game results in one's heart being melted [not mended].

"ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella ella"

These lyrics are clearly self explanatory.

Elton John – Have Mercy on the Criminal Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think this song is really telling the listener to either have mercy or not on the criminal, rather just about how the criminal feels at being hunted, and pretty much knowing he's going to be caught before the night is out. So, if he finds an old house on the moors or something, he would be so desperate and pleading to warrant a song about these feelings (?).

Incubus – Drive Lyrics 19 years ago
I absolutely hate it when I ask people "Do you like Incubus?" And they say, "Yeah, they did Drive, right?" And I say "STOP IT!! DRIVE SUCKS ASS!!! I have no clue whatsoever why they released it as the SINGLE but how bad it is compared to every single other amazing Incubus songs just shows that people generally have no clue about music, they just lap up whatever is in the charts. It annoys the shit out of me.

Incubus – Here In My Room Lyrics 19 years ago
I have to agree with Elderling here. Just hear me out, please.

Incubus have done lots of incredible love songs; that cannot be denied: I Miss You, Wish You Were Here, Echo, and the one I want to draw a comparison between- Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song).

The lyrical difference between Summer Romance and Here In My Room is what makes me believe that the latter is primarily about sex, and just generally the anticipation and joy to be had from it. There are no other aphorisms of "Love" in this song that are not just about sex, whereas in Summer Romance is all about Love, while still having the "meeting alone" thing.

The whole 'scenario' of the story is a party where the narrator is really bored (black and white) and then the girl arrives, takes him up to his room, and they have sex. There is no actual mention of him loving her (or the converse); in fact, "love is a verb here in my room" explicity denies that.

"So thank you for being that kind of girl" obviously is "thank you for putting out, not minding being treated [essentially] as a sex object." There are no promises, questions or anything else directed towards the girl as you might find in other Incubus Love songs, it is all just about the boy and his pleasure at getting to have sex.

Lastly, I am aware that this song is about 7 years later than Summer Romance, and so the lyrical style may simply be different for that reason.

Queen – Bijou Lyrics 20 years ago
'Bijou' is French for 'jewel.' It's a term of endearment, not sure how common it is. This song is currently my favourite, and has been for a long long time, I doubt that that will ever change.

Queen are my favourite band, if you like this song, i suggest you listen to 'The Night Comes Down' on the first, self-titled album, the lyrics and melody are absolutely incredible (it takes a while to get into the song, there is a random guitar solo first).
