First of all, there is no way in the blue hell that this is about the new testament, so anyone that thinks so... never post anything about circa again. Anyway, this is one of those songs that digs into the deep feelings of somebody that might have fucked up a relationship or a close friendship or the perception of an individual that you care about toward yourself. he's not making fun of anybody, not sparking an anti monotheistic conversation, just ending a masterpiece of an album with a message for those who are in a state of loneliness... that it happens to everybody. |

First of all, this song has nothing to do with the New Temiment. Secondly, this is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. It's one where the meaning doesn't really matter becasue it's just so good, especially the lead guitar part. But since this website is about discussing the meaning to songs, I think it's about feeling alone, either after a bad breakup or just due to te feeling that nothing or nobody can make you feel content. So he looks to the radio for entertainment, which is okay for the night, but when morning comes he's greeted by nohing but infinite silence. As far te references to winter into spring and evolution are concerned, I think they are just symbols of the passing of time. |

Yeah, you probably are. Anyway, this song is about being distracted by the idea that somehing in your life, most likely a relationship, is not actually what you thought it was, and he/she is cheating on you. "you're with someone else that I have felt and seen". the "ties to mend" represents the relationship too. The only thing I don't get is the evolution line. I don't see how it fits in. |

Singers/writers of songs will just about always deny the true meaning of a song, with the exception of say Jim Morrison or Hendrix. This song is deffinitely about Phil witnessing a friend drowning. At the same time, there was another guy who was closer to his friend but did not help him, just let him drown.
Phil invited the guy to a concert a few months later. He sat in the front row and supposedly during this song a spotlight was shining pn the front row rather than on Collins. Was this a message to this guy? I don't know, I just know the man commited suicide shortly after the show. |

None of Robbie Krieger's were really that great. There's no way light my fire there greatest song ever, and this song doesn't bring the best out of Jim as many other songs did. This song did have a great guitar part though, really yhe only Doors song you can say that about. |
