Wow... ONE comment?? weeird... That song is absolutely fantastic! The tone that the singer reaches is amazing! About the meaning I would say it's about a guy who made a mistake with his girlfriend so she broke up with him and he is asking for her forgiveness. Very emotional and beautiful. |

That's one of the coolest song I've heard. For those who don't know, Krummavísur is an Icelandic national poem and a song, which In Extremo has changed very nicely to this metalled up tune. As a metal fan I really fancy this song. In fact... I find it rather hard to believe that you found these lyrics on the Coldplay official website... I'm just really not in the mood to check it to be sure, but I really think it is a strange coincidence that these lyrics look very much like you tried to correct the other ones.. I don't mean to be picky, but in both versions: 1. 4 "o"s.. ("oooo") 2. The end is exactly the same (three times the whole line and once half the line and three dots after it): "Slowly breaking through the daylight, Slowly breaking through the daylight, Slowly breaking through the daylight, Slowly breaking..." 3. the same letters are capitalised.. everywhere, except where there are changes, of course. I just hate when people lie. Maybe you weren't but then I guess it's a strange coincidence.. |

I think both songwriting and lyrics are very superficial.. I mean all you need to do to know the meaning of this song is read the name of it: "Smells like teen spirit". Teen spirit! It's simply about being a teenager! phew, that was hard to find out...? And the songwriting, well, if any of you know how to play the guitar you know that it's probably the easiest riff to pull off in the world... I know that does not have to be a bad thing.. But I just cannot see why people say this is such an "amazing" songwriting.. it's so superficial... This is certainly not a bad song.. But it is still IMHO the most overrated I know of.. |

on the SKOM DVD you can hear a beginning of a solo they were gonna have in this song. I just wish they hadn't left it out, it was SOOO cool. I still love this song but I'm sure it would have been even better with that solo on it, but I'm sure Metallica had their reasons for not having it there. |

I hate to say it but to me it's solely about drug usage (I know people tend to say it too often about song lyrics). The first verse, I would say, is about how people seem to blame things too much on drug addicts and judge them. I think the chorus fits very well into this meaning, it has a sarcastic meaning of how wonderful it is to be high. The second verse is rather obvious, the girl took her own life, she had too many regrets, and the boy killed his mother because he heard voices that possibly told him to kill her. The third verse would then be about a man who had damaged his brain so badly on drug usage that he couldn't tell he was fighting himself and shot him(self). But that's my interpretation. |
