Radiohead – Bodysnatchers Lyrics 19 years ago
"you gotta close your eyes... and groove out to this one. And think of uhh trying to escape from the Stepford Wives. That's what I think of"
-Thom Yorke

it's just meant to convey a sort of atmosphere of tension and paranoia.
which this band is quite good at doing.

love this song
got it from a copenhagen bootleg, and it's probably my favorite (this or badysnatchers).
as for "the bald guy"(grrr), Phil Selway does an excelent job on this one
lyrics wise, I think it's just about the general frustrations of life holding you back.

Blue October – X Amount Of Words Lyrics 19 years ago
deffinately agree with the corrections there

awesome song

the first half seems almost orwellian, being monitored, made with prostetic hearts, all being the same. even the beat of the song seems to imply that, with the cheering in the background, and such a strong beat creating a feeling of marching.

the second half seems to be about being left to the side, and forgotten about, perhaps by a girl, or perhaps by the orwellian society implied.

I dunno
I like to think it's the orewellian society, where he can stand and look at it from the outside, seeing how soulless it really is, but it results in the society crushing him and leaving him behind.
and thus, it's just about the meat grinder society of today breaking people down

I doubt anyone else sees it like that, but who knows?
I like it my way

Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this is the actual death, and hurt is an epilogue.
love this song, love this CD.
Also, something noone else has mentioned yet, I just love the effect on the word bang. It seems a lot more drawn out, but mechanical, and surreal.

Radiohead – Climbing Up the Walls Lyrics 20 years ago
well, I think this is mostly about his time in the mental hospital
creepy as hell, and very introspective.

I am the key to the lock in your house
That keeps your toys in the basement
-my favorite little bit of the song. As I see this one, it's a metaphore for how the speaker (the crazy person) really is the glue of society. He is a small but crucial part of how we keep one little peice of our world organized. Anything inexplicable that conflicts with the way we want to see the world is just shoved into a corner of the basement, locked away, and called crazy. His being shoved to the side this way allows the world to keep moving the way it does.

And if you get too far inside
You'll only see my reflection
-obvious here. Don't look too close. just lock me up. You don't want to think about me more, or you will see that we aren't so different. I'm not so crazy, and you aren't so sane. You just want to think of me as crazy and leave it at that before you start to see yourself in me.

It's always best with the covers up
-Don't take the cover down. Don't look at me too deep
I am the pick in the ice
-the ice, I beleive represents the smooth surface of the world. Jam a pick through that ice, and a few things start to happen. The ice begins to lose pressure and crack easily. The glassy smoothness instantly dissapears giving way to a white wound in the surface. he is an affront to how the world is, and when you see him ttruly, you see how tenuous our grasp of the world is
Do not cry out or hit the alarm
You know we're friends till we die
-once you start to see this truth, you can't just run. Crazy is just a label, and I am a person just like you. Stop using this little sheild

And either way you turn, I'll be there
Open up your skull, I'll be there
Climbing up the walls
-You will NEVER be able to forget me one you really know me and have met me. The knowledge of how broken and twisted my mind is, and yet how close I am to you at the same time will haunt you forever, occasionally creeping to the surface.

It's always best when the light is off
-again with the same idea as the sheet. This one gives also more of an image of stealth and fear though.
It's always better on the outside
-Most likely a refference to the freeling of low-risk patients. He's on the outside. Once again he is free to live amongst these people. Always a sharp contrast to them. Always pushed aside as the crazy one. But he is free
Fifteen blows to the back of your head
Fifteen blows to your mind
-possibly a reffernce to violence, but I more just see it as a sharp blow of consiousness change when you really see who these people are, and how thin the line is between batshit insane and normalcy

So lock the kids up safe tonight
-Noone will ever feel safe around me again. I have been pushed into this spot in society. Labled as crazy, and I will forever be shunned
Shut the eyes in the cupboard
-Noone want to even look at me anymore
I've got the smile of a local man
Who's got the loneliest feeling
-I'm a normal man again in ways, but I will never be truly accepted. I am the crazy one forever.

you see, most people see this as someone wrongfuly released, but I prefer to think of it as someone wrongfully imprisoned, or possibly even a social commentary about just pushing all of these men to the side instead of honestly helping them and getting to know them.
I'm betting Thom frequently talked with one or more of the patients at the hospital.
just a thought
love to know what you guys think about my veiw of it. I won't check back here too often, so if there's something you really want me to see, go ahead and e-mail it to me. Otherwise, I'll probably check back every once in a while.
