This song is about that little voice in your head, who you don't want to listen to, but you do. It tells you to push those who care about you away("There's one dimension of myself that's hurt the ones I love"). To generally be a jerk to everyone. Sometimes that voice is there, sometimes it goes away("It goes away so quickly now, but I've been gone before"). It's about the artist trying to shut out that voice("I have come to shut you out"), because he has a reason to stop listening, that special someone who saw something special in him, and accepts him, loves him, even with his flaws("Loving me has made me halfway decent by default") At least, that's what it means to me, as I went through such a personal struggle |
