When i went to see the Strokes live, they performed this. It was really simple just Julian left on stage on his own with one spot light, and he changed the lyrics "don't be a coconut" to "don't be a you know what" it was pretty funny. I don't have a clue on the meaning of the song though. I can just imagine them messing around in the studio and Julian taking the piss trying to make up lyrics and just saying "i've got nothing to say" i don't think it really has much meaning. |

i don't think it's abit jarvis losing his virginity 'cause that was in some park in sheffield (i only know this because f the documentry "do you remember the first time?") I think it's just about him falling in love unexpectedly and in the wrong circumstances. |

I think i'm wrong with my comment above i recently bought the Pulp Hits DVD and there's a documentry which has interviews with celebrities about loosing there virginity with the same title, so i think it;s just about him feeling bitter towards the girl he lost it to. |

This songs about ian curtis' affair with annik honore and his relationship with his wife.
It refers to his epilepsy "you cry out in your sleep, all my failings exposed" the woman he had the affair with was ashamed of ian when he had fits on stage, or his it could be deborah curtis who cries out in her sleep as his failings are he let her and their daughter down by having an affair. It's about the reasons he committed suicide. |

I recon this about jarvis having an affair with a woman, who goes back to her husband every night. He doesn't care if she's still sleeping with him as long she saves a piece for him. He's remembering the first time they had sex, which would have been awkward and guilt ridden so it was the worse time. that's just my oppinion, could be wrong. |

I think this song is about kele (the singer) being in love with and older woman, "Every half hour is a countdown" i recon implies that he is waiting till he's old enough for this woman and she's a coward cause she doesn't like what other people think of her and a younger guy. I may be totally off on this, but i just been in a relationship with a significantly older guy and i completely identified with this song when we broke up cause he was bothered by what other people thought. |
