| Deftones – Needles and Pins Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| It was about you and me. You were pins. I was needles. We played. You wanted that, then you came on. We tuned out everyone in the crowd. Because then it was just me and you. We fell in love with the sound. Made a pact to each other, when no one was around. You put the cross between me and you. No one fucked with us then. We were. | |

| No clue. My favorite one though. I play my Pinback at 1.1 speed so it sounds closer to the live versions. | |

fatsodeluxe has a pretty good point -though if you're making up your own meaning, I'd like to stick with the war related one, since they seem to be heavily influenced by historical events also. "Dropping down perfume" could very well mean chemicals to put out fires; could also be taken as the smell of bombs, lyrically; only Rob knows. "Trees with the fire storm" -anti-air turrets anyone? Maybe I ought to lay off the war footage in the news. Make sure you check out Rob's collaboration with Sleeping People to hold us up while the next Pinback record comes out. Peace. |

| Not a meaning, but "Guide me, test me" kind of sounds like "Jackson, Jesse" from Cat Power's Nude as the news. Right. | |
| Pinback – June Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| BTW, trees with the fire storm makes me think of anti aircraft turrets -if you're getting bombed, it'd be up to them I guess... | |

| Nelly Furtado – My Love Grows Deeper Part 1 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Haven't heard this version -these are the lyrics to the one in the CD: My love grows deeper every day and takes a little piece of me My love grows deeper every day and takes a little piece of me My love grows deeper every day, deep into the sea But takes a little piece of me, a little piece of me Oh it's so beautiful out and I can't see why we're not allowed to be Up in the sky with the birds counting the flowers Oh my powers have failed me again when I can't see beginning to end No I try and test it again through the hours Chorus: Wandering stars in the blue could not be born cause of you Wandering stars in the blue could not be born cause of you My love grows deeper every day and takes a little piece of me My love grows deeper every day and takes a little piece of me My love grows deeper every day, deep into the sea But takes a little piece of me, a little piece of me Oh why can't I be green as the grass beneath my feet As fresh as the dew hits the ground in the morning And not yellow like bumble bees, please take me off my knees, my knees I don't wanna be red forever Chorus I've been looking at the moon but I've been thinking of myself I've got me under my own skin I don't need nobody else I'm looking at the moon but I'm thinking of myself I've got me under my own skin I don't need nobody else Chorus If I could have sunlight in the palm of your hand I'd take the moonlight instead I don't think it's about being in love with another person. It could be interpreted as being in love with one self and not needing anyone else. Or, if you want to stretch it, think that that some one else could be god? It fits pretty well if you're an atheist, don’t ya think?... |

| I don't think we ever said it, but I hope you know this was our song. I will always remember that night when you drank too much wine and were singing it. I loved you so much N. | |

This is the sexiest song ever written and perfectly delivered from Kim’s whispery voice. Thurston, you lucky bastard. Although it’s probably some obscure reference to something really deep, to my personally simplistic view, this is a song about the basic act of fucking. I’ve edited some words, but mostly I’ve changed the punctuation, becuz I think the timing in which it’s sung is a huge part of the song’s mood: There's something shifting in the distance, Don't know what it is… Days as dead as night, Except for the feeling that's… Crawling up inside of me, as you, Sing your song, as you… Swing along and your, It's your... your song The devil in me… Makes me stare at you, as you… Twist up along… sing your song, and you’re… Slithering up to me, and you’re So close I just, uh, wanna… touch you And uh, sing you a song, but you Don't know what's going on, but you… Wanna… me to come along, as you… Sing your song, and you’re Fucking with me, as you, Slither up to me Your lips are, slipping Twisting up my insides, and Sing along, you're just a, Swinging man, it’s not it your Swinging song, and I Don’t know what you want, but You're looking at me, and you’re Falling on the ground, and you’re Twisting around… Fucking with my, my mind, and I don't know what's… going on Swing your song, twisting along, as you Slither up to me and it's… gotta be in, I don’t know what you… Wanna do, and you’re, Looking at me, with your… Big dark eyes and you’re… Rubbing your body… Twistin' |

Sounds to me like it’s about someone comforting a misunderstood outcast, someone who’s a big fish in a small pond. Can’t really read more into the lyrics. I love the “bullshit artists sit and stare” part. Seen too many of those myself. Updated lyrics from the mustang site: Hey hey where you going in such a hurry? Take it easy girl and tell me a story Move on over here, slow it down Tell me why you're being run out of town I don't give a fuck Why everybody thinks you should shut up Everybody's freaked cuz everybody knows That you're the queen of NO Hey hey where you going in such a rush? Hey girl I think they think you know too much They can't catch you with me Cuz I move too slow Slow enough to know That you're gonna have to go I don't really care Why the bullshit artists sit and stare They can never find out About me and the queen of NO I don't really care Why the bullshit artists sit and stare They can't ever find out About me and the queen of NO |

Keeping with the record's theme, sounds like it's about a runaway kid's story on L.A. The guitar riff where Kim's singing "hold tight and fear..." it's a true work of art, it expresses so much angst. I believe I've gone somehow deaf blasting that part on my headphones. I've updated the lyrics straight from the SY and mustang's sites: Every time you look my way You showed a lie in what you say Every time you look my way You talk a rhyme called purple haze Close your eyes and pretend You're not at all like them Smartest girl on the strip You really know just how to be hip Tellin stories 'bout your crazy trip Messin with stars and doing tricks Close your eyes and pretend It's not at all like then Big glass house on the hill Doing dope and ditching school Yesterday Bruce Barry was here A wild kid I thought was cool Close your eyes and pretend This is how it should end Cinderella of the night Doesn't know her left from right She's so hungry for a bite Forgetting her friends fork and knife Don't you know who's keeping score? Who's that barking at your door? Hold tight and fear a little bit Hold tight and fear a little bit Hold tight and fear a little bit Hold tight and fear That was then, this is now Every time you look my way Remember a girl who used to say Hold me tight anyway It's okay, it's only play I remember in the dark Where I came from for a lark |

Those piano notes are so beautiful. Because someone needed to state the obvious (my take): It's about a place, probably a small village, being bombed by airplanes. Although it sounds wrong, I like to think that the verse is sung by the person on the ground and the chorus is sung from the perspective of the person in the bomber, having doubts "Why do I assume these things (the target) are bad? Why must all those pretty things be sad? Hyperdrive sequence begun, hit it Pinback... |

According to Chris Lawrence's page, this one's a homage to Patti Smith's "Because The Night". Seems like a straight forward love song to me, lyrically. Kim's vocals are amazing -it's so incredibly sexy the way she whispers it while instrumentally there's all kinds of things going on. It is maybe my favorite song all around. The way the guitars are played blows me away, especially Thurston's, doing this weird tuned percussive riff. Overall, the song rhythm I can only describe as sexual -the beginning hurling through the climax where the guitars go wild, then it slows back down while you're still enjoying whatever just happened ;-). Or maybe I've just been listening to it too much :-P |

| the lyrics are pretty upfront -but the music is just beyond explanation -I love this song -how can they be so scary and pop-like at the same time? this one like all of SY's songs is far beyond contemporary music even now. The beauty of discovering a new song you like is amazing on its own right, but with this song I was just taken to some emotional states I didn't even know I could experience. Try and isolate out the guitars, each riff is a work of art. Thank you Sonic Youth for giving me beauty and hope. | |

here's my take: boy likes girl -girl approaches -boy gets nervous -she's so...amazing -need air -tongue tied -what was the boy going to say to her? he lost his path...-girls that approach him are boats in a straight line but he's going to mess it up and feel bad for it afterwards -he gets frustrated and shows other people his bad side -is not cool nor fair... something like that |
