I always figured it was about journalists who always focus on human suffering to boost their ratings. Or it could be about corporations who sell us things we don't need and are harmful (like cigarettes and fast food) and who rip off farmers in third world contries all for the own profit.
The latter seems to fit well with

Its not just a good intro to The Patient, I think its also an awesome comedown. The Grudge gets your heart really racing, and Eon Blue Apocalypse is an almost post-coital calm after the storm. Beautiful! |

This all pretty much sums up what i thought about the song.
The only thing ill add is that "We make up for so much time" could refer to how, when she finally grows up and gets the freedom to do all the things that were previously restricted, she goes over the top trying to make up for it all, and ends up a fish out of water. |
