first off, I have to agree with Stranded. there's a lot more to this song than just a 4-letter world, it's really too bad that's where most of the focus has fallen. the cheating scenario in music is a little cliche, but that's what i hear. "don't stain your bed" i think he's singing about himself cheating on another. and he's not proud of it, but it's what he needed to do to "be free". but now that its over, and his partner is aware of it he wants more than anything for them to move on, to "empty [their] head". instead of accepting that he screwed up, he blames it on the other person. he sees things in the past that aren't really there, he "fakes a fuss" to take away from the fact that he cheated. he can't stand to be around that person, because they haven't really forgiven him yet, and he hasn't really forgiven himself. he can't plant his feelings of regret, and anger, and sadness. they just hover around with him, "like a rootless tree". all he can feel around that person is guilt, it's "hell when [they're] around. he just wants to start over, he's a "killer", and he has to start over, "reinvent" himself because he can't get away from his past. it's too late. instead of owning up to his mistake, he turned his guilt into anger at the other person. he hates that person for his own faults. but deep down, he feels for that person still, he never had a real reason to hate them in the first place. he still loves them, but he can't get past the hate he uses to protect himself. i love when damien takes his music here. so amazingly intense <3 |
