| Bloc Party – Sunday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| not one of their best songs... a bit bloc-party-by-numbers. but I do like the premise of the lyrics. it's just... nice. and sometimes you just need to hear a nice song. | |
| Idlewild – Quiet Crown Lyrics | 19 years ago |

cannot believe no one has commented on this! it's one of their best songs... maybe my favourite. anyways... I think it's about how Roddy's had to travel in the band and so a relationship with someone who's still at home is suffering. He wants to go home and reunite and save the relationship but unfortunately "everything's broken now" Talking about the "good north" and flying a little to the right is him returning home to Scotland. |

| Broken Social Scene – Bandwitch Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i think it's "pulitzer prize" instead of "pull it surprised." not sure what kevin means by it though... although I'm now thinking maybe the whole song is from a music journalists view? talking about his favourite band and such? I've no idea here, I'm just theorising. |

| what the hell is pete singing at the end? | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – The Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i've always thought this has a bit of a yo la tengo feel to it... lay some distortion over the top and it could've been lifted right from "I can hear the heart beat as one". that said... this song is amazing! definately my favourite James song. pity his solo album wasn't more like this. | |
| Buffseeds – Barricade Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I'm not really sure about specifics... but when you think that the buffseeds are from Northern Ireland this seems like another song about the Troubles. firstly the title - pretty obvious. Kieran seems to be criticising the paramilitaries who claim to be fighting a religous cause but are just terrorists. "And religion is left by the backdoor" "You'll never get to heaven with a violent intent" "a new day, another parade" is a really appropriate line for Northern Ireland as people here are obsessed with parades... mostly the protestant community. the line "You'll be responsible for the children that you have told" seems to me to be critisizing those people who indoctrinate their children with their bigoted view. and finally... "You've been fighting for ages but what for And your forefathers left by the backdoor" is to me Keiran implying that while their forefathers fought for a just cause... they would be ashamed of those fighting nowadays. |

| The Mountain Goats – Anti-Music Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'd enjoy this song way more if it didn't irk me so much the way he mispronounces morrissey. | |
| Regina Spektor – Oedipus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I don't think it's directly about the Oedipus story. I think the character in this song feels ignored by his mother because he's the 32nd child. When he wakes up thinking Oedipus... I think it's anger at his father and his mother for ignoring him ("32s still a goddamn number"). I'm sure the "long live the king" is sarcastic. |

| The Who – Real Good Looking Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| veitchy_88 the opening piano part is straight from an elvis song. as is the "wise men say" part... so it just kindof seems like a clue that it's about someone wishing they looked like elvis, | |
| The Kooks – Naive Lyrics | 19 years ago |

it makes more sense if the lyrics are "die everytime I look inside" and "die everytime you're on his side" |

| Wolf Parade – I'll Believe in Anything Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
hey thelorax...you made some good points there...especially about the increased energy at the end of the song...there's definately a new level of intensity there... i agree its 'take away the salt from your eyes' i was talking about the next line? anyways he's talking about handing over his apologies and giving olive trees...an olive branch being the sign for peace... i think that part of the song is a definate plea for forgiveness and that he's serious about it... look at the trees...i'm apologising look at my face...i'm not kidding... and look at the place far away from here... i agree he's suggesting they go away somewhere and start over. and then the intensity of the song just goes into overdrive...his voice gains so much more emotion... he really needs this. |

I agree it's definately "i could you my apologies by handing over all the olive trees" he even sings about olive trees a line or 2 later. and the idea that it's about peace is an excellent suggestion. also I noticed while casually listening to this song on a car journey home tonight that the line following "and I could take away the salt from your eyes" has got to be "and take away what's been assaulting you" |
