| Sara Bareilles – King of Anything Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| pretty sure this song is about Amanda Ghost (EPIC records) and her trying to have a heavy hand in the direction of Sarah's album. | |
| Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Pages Written on a Wall Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i like this song too! | |
| Bon Iver – Skinny Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"I'll be holding all the tickets And you'll be owning all the fines" this song is supposedly about justins inability to fully love someone after he has been badly hurt by a previous lover. this line then, means that it's his fault that he can't love her, but it will be his new lover that will be paying for his leftover feelings. she'll feel the blow of his distance, she will pay for the hurt his previous lover caused him by being hurt herself. |

| Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – My Baby (Shoots Her Mouth Off) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
no replies to this song? it's beautiful. i hope you've heard their remake of it. its completely gorgeous. i've always thought it about falling for the girl that you can't take home to mother. she's completely vulgar and indecent, saying whatever she likes and doing whatever she wants. and you shouldnt love her but you do, even if it's not what's best for you. she's a sinner and you're only slightly embarrassed that she makes a scene, but you keep her around despite others opinions. |

"and you are just a paper BOAT" sorry, another correction. |
|
| Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Broadripple Is Burning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
the lyrics are "And the girls are getting sick of huffing glue up in the bathroom..." and in the chorus it's "'Cause I'll be hanging from a rope. I will haunt you like a ghost" sorry, i had to. this is my favorite song on not animal. it's perfect. |
|
| Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand" for me, these lines stand out the most. chris martin captured the fickle-ness of fame in an ingenius way in this stanza. the imagery of castles standing upon pillars of salt and sand is gorgeous, as well as clever. these pillars simply dissolve with time, and easily. to be honest, i really like the new coldplay album much better than anything else they have ever done. brian eno helped them take a turn for the better. the overall result is beautifully textured music, each song off the album is amazing. |

| Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Talking In Code Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song is gorgeous... the last two verses are beautifully simple. | |
| Stars – Life Effect Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song, pretty much summmarizes most of my sorry love life. | |
| Stars – Romantic Comedy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
dont walk away then turn and say "i love you anyway" i agree, its the girl complicating things. it'd be so much simpler if she could stop being so arrogant and just admit she loves him without leaving first. it creates uneccessary hurt. wow this is sounding familiar. |
|
| Stars – The Woods Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| you'll probably read this someday, you never failed to just show up when i least expected you to. i remember i walked you through the woods. where are we going? was the sentence of the day. i still don't know where the hell i planned on taking you, i just wanted to show you. we ended up on a highway. i guess there's some irony in that. i don't particularly like this song, but when i read the lyrics, i remembered this insignificant moment in my life that you happened to be in. i bet you don't even remember. | |
| Stars – Heart Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"I'll leave the dying young stuff up to you" that line always makes me shiver. i don't know why. "You get back on the latest flight to paradise I found out from a note taped to the door I think I saw your airplane in the sky tonight Through my window lying on the kitchen floor" also, this stanza, there's nothing lyrically genius about it, but its just so perfect, so well depicted, i'm there in that moment. i feel this way everyday now. not literally. he's out having a great time and i'm letting my life just pass, weeks are minutes to me. i'm lying on the floor. and of course, amy's voice, so beautiful in this song. i think this is the best i've heard her. |

| Circa Survive – Oh, Hello Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| yeah, this one is from clementines perspective it seems | |
| Circa Survive – In Fear and Faith Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
juturna, the entire album, is a concept album, and it's based on eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. it all makes sense. "can we last through the winter? the water's starting to freeze... the only one who remembers is taking the wrong step falling in front of me" don't know if any of you saw eternal sunshine, but the relationship between joel and clementine is clearly depicted. most of the songs are written from joels standpoint, this one in particular. clementine and joel met just before winter, and once, clementine brought him to this beautiful frozen river, and they laid out on it. after they both had their memories erased, they both met again, forgetting they ever knew eachother, and she brought him here again. that's what triggered his relapse into memories. the "ones who remember" were patrick and mary and that other guy and the doctor. they thought they were doing the right thing by erasing peoples memories. |

| Bright Eyes – It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song progressively delves deeper into the relationship between conor and this girl. i think the ending is appropriate, and it reflects the way humans chose to cope with things they don't understand. i have to sympathize with conor. it's difficult to befriend someone you used to care so deeply for. especially when they're so flippant, so nonchalant in their words choice, and they maybe do things that mean more to you than it does to them without relizing it (the kissing, going out to dinner, etc.) it's hard not to get caught up in memories. | |
| Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| don't even get me started. | |
| Bright Eyes – Road to Joy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| no matter how many people say conor oberst sucks, it just isn't true. have respect. he's a lyrical genius. "the sun came up with no conclusions" - thats amazing. | |
| Stars – Calendar Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| january, february, march, april, may, i'm alive... | |
| Damien Rice – Rootless Tree Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| despite all the anger in this song, that one "love you" nullifies his acclaimed hatred for this girl. it's apparent he still cares. | |
| Damien Rice – Cheers Darlin' Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i do like this song, only heard it just recently. what i envision is sitting at the wedding of an ex, watching them bind themselves to some other person that isn't you, and you keep feeling like, "that should have been me putting that ring on that finger". and it just feels wrong! let's all admit it, there's always that one person you'll never truely get over. and yes, it ended for good reasons, but you always feel something, even though time continues to elapse between you. | |
| Damien Rice – Accidental Babies Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| the piano accompaniment in this piece is so, so, so extraordinarilly haunting and beautiful. | |
| Damien Rice – Elephant Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song is gorgeous and melancholy, despite the sexual reference. so much frustration, confusion, heartache, and indecision all strung into one song. his voice carries his words well. the meaning of the words hardly matter because the beautiful sounds he's making mean something else entirely. | |
| Stars – Your Ex-Lover Is Dead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| don't read this if you're not willing to deal with venting. by far, this song is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. its simplicity is what makes it perfect. in a way, it had mirrored events of my life that had occurred so long ago, i didn't think they'd mean anything anymore. recently, i transposed it to piano. i've been playing it everyday since then. unfortunately, this song is half the reason i relapsed back into feelings for someone i thought i was done with. but it's beautiful. the man's part captures all of the confusion of dealing with someone you used to care so much about. the woman, however, seems to be a bit too sure of herself, maybe even fooling herself into thinking he still cares so much for her, meanwhile he says he could hardly remember her name. there is doubt though, in her assuredness, when she says "it's nothing but time and a face that you lose, i chose to feel it and you couldn't choose." i'm guessing she ran back to him, and he didn't feel the same. funny. | |
| Elliott Smith – Twilight (Somebody's Baby) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i like the call and response concept suggested by ACEGRAVY, i read through the lyrics after hearing that and i see the song in an entirely new light. thats an extremely different way to think about it. me and this song go way back, i love it with my entire self. i even transposed it to piano, since i'm not much for guitar. i play it for my friends when they're sad. i'm glad elliot wrote this song before he left us... its changed my life. | |
| Regina Spektor – Buildings Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| relatable... its a husband who's coping with his wife's problems because he loves her, so he gives her as much time as she needs to change, yet, as much time as he gives her, he knows she won't. the wife is taking him for granted, figuring he'll deal with her and stay with her and not trying to better herself. | |
| Regina Spektor – 20 Years of Snow Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| regina spektors songs never cease to amaze me. basically its all been said... the father had a bad past and the daughter is building a pure life around herself, hence the "20 years of snow" | |
| Sarah McLachlan – Possession Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i heard, from a very reliable source, ( and yes i'm aware this has been brought to attention) that this song contains actual lines from a letter a stalker wrote to sarah mclachlan. what some people may not know ( not saying you don't, just trying to help) is that in some letters, death threats were made and sarah brought this guy to court, and eventually he killed himself. uh anyway, i think it was really brave of sarah mclachlan to confront this guy, through her art: a song. i mean, usually when someone has a stalker they try to avoid them and shake them off, but she totally put herself out there by writing a song about it. that to me is pretty brave. especially with the risk the guy would hear it one day. | |
| Stars – The Vanishing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song is pretty relatable right now. for me at least. | |
| Architecture in Helsinki – It'5! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| HAHA WAIT NOW I FOUND YOU. | |
| Architecture in Helsinki – It'5! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| dude, are you stalking me daniel? | |
| of Montreal – Requiem for O.M.M.2 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i love the simile the song has in it about him feeling like a ship. to me it says that his feelings are out of control for this girl (or guy?) and he can't control them, and his lover or whoever he's chasing (and you watched as i was sinking, waving sadly from the pier) knows how much he's hurting from them but refuses to help. | |
| Architecture in Helsinki – It'5! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song is really funn :) anyway, maybe stranger danger means like, i'm in danger of becoming a stranger to you? heh no idea. | |
| Radiohead – Creep Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
when i was little this was the first song i learned to play on the piano. i loved it. i love the way i had to make my voice crescendo at the word door everytime. i didn't understand any of it then, i just knew i could play it. now i'm older, not by alot, but older. and i can't even bring myself to listen to it anymore. it reminds me of my two friends. one is absolutely in love with the other, the other one is fighting the feelings he's forcing on her. he's destroying his whole life to get to her and i'm up every night with him trying to fix it. but i can't, only he can. she is really what you'd call perfect, shes pretty and nice and talented. but she's an idiot. and he's pushing everyone away. sorry for venting. |
|
| Jewel – Foolish Games Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this song is so amazing. to me its about falling for that boy. you know. the artistic, deep, feeling one who writes you poems and smokes between classes and appreciates little things. and you make him out to be something beautiful but in reality hes self consumed and heartless. he makes you feel inferior. |
|
| Jewel – Intuition Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
THIS SONMG SUCKS SO INTENSLEY THAT IT COULD KILL ALL THE FLOWERS GROWING IN A FIELD. stupid stupid stupid girl. she meant so much more to me before she started putting out shit like this. old jewel was a hell of alot more talented and insightful. now shes just scrambling for press coverage. |
|
| Jewel – Who Will Save Your Soul Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i used to love jewel. well i still do, but nows shes a stupid sellout, writing songs with no substance at all. this song though, this song means alot. "So get out on the streets, girls, and bust your butts" probably about prostitutes. anyway... i think its cool how she talked through her songs, that just gave them a unique feel. |
|
| Sheila Nicholls – Faith Lyrics | 19 years ago |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"And here's where your mother sleeps And here is the room where your brothers were born Indentions in the sheets Where their bodies once moved but don't move anymore And it's so sad to see the world agree That they'd rather see their faces fill with flies All when I'd want to keep white roses in their eyes " obviously about the secret annex. this whole song is about anne frank, and someones friend who commited suicide. |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
holy shit helamonster that was fucking amazing. i love this song and ive been trying to figure out who the girl was, and how the anne frank reference is found in like every song... and you just did that and made it look like NOTHING, just absolutely nothing. that was genius. i would never ever make the connection of the two peters becoming one, and him being the two headed boy in one sense, and someone else in another. i applaud that. |
|
| Missy Higgins – Scar Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i always thought this was about people trying to change you. i never really saw the sexuality reference, but you know. anyway i love this song. |

| Missy Higgins – All For Believing Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i love missy higgins. ahh. this song is so amazingly beautiful the lyrics are so doubtful, but she wants him to believe. its like shes trying to make them see, but whoever they are is a skeptic. skeptisicsm must be romance's worst enemy. |

| Panic! at the Disco – The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
okay so i just read this book, and its amazing, and now i understand this song pretty well. "Sit tight, I'm gonna need you to keep time C'mon, just snap, snap, snap your fingers for me Good, good, now we're making some progress Come on just tap, tap, tap your toes to the beat" i felt like that was making the reference to tender when he was being made over by the agent, just sit there do what he says, so he can make the money and the profit. it was progress. "And I believe This may call for a proper introduction, and well Don't you see? I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue" tenders the narrator of the story, he tells this whole story for some reason with the pages going backwards. and the chapters. you dont really get the full story until you're somewhere in the middle, then you learn about the cults and all that shit. "Swear to shake it up, and you swear to listen Oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives" the shaking it up thing is definatley about fertility, her predictions, all that. the desperate for attention has to be about tender, he was in such severe suffereing after he was out of the spotlight. and even though that guy from falloutboy wrote the last line in this, i think the I aim to be your eyes, is about adam, his brother. trophy boys trophy wives has to be about their community. "Applause, applause, no, wait, wait Dear studio audience, I've an announcement to make It seems the artists these days are not who you think So we'll pick back up on that on another page" very self explainitory. its making a reference to the whole stage in tenders life when he was some martyr to all the people, like a holy celebrity of sorts. then they all found out he was a fake. everything about him was mass produced. this is just my interpretation, not sure if its right. but after reading Survivor it made sense. |

|
| Fiona Apple – Extraordinary Machine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i'm probably the only one who thinks of this, but, hah, i always think of a bicycle whenever i hear this song. "I still only travel by foot and by foot it's a slow climb But I'm good at being uncomfortable so I can't stop changing all the time " bikes are pedaled by foot. "I noticed that my opponent is always on the go And won't go slow so as not to focus and I notice He'll hitch a ride with any guide as long as they go fast from whence he came But he's no good at being uncomfortable so he can't stop staying exactly the same " that could be of reference to a car. you know, everyone drives in a car. cars are fast. "If there was a better way to go then it would find me I can't help it the road just rolls out behind me " self explainitory. haha i dont know, i probably sound like a retard, maybe shes comparing herself to a bicycle. no idea. just a thought. |
