| Relient K – Which To Bury, Us Or The Hatchet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| it means that the wise decision is to hash it out, get everything out in the open, even if it leads to a fight, instead of just holding it in and letting things pull you apart. if you fight and get it all out, you can get over it and hopefully move on, but if you give up, there's a part of you that will always hold on to that hurt. | |

| Sheryl Crow – The Joker Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Haha - wow - these lyrics are messed up. First, it's "some people call me Maurice 'cause I speak of the pompatus of love" - which is a reference to an earlier SMB song. Next, in the chorus: "I'm a picker (guitar picker) I'm a grinner (as in, picking and grinning - country music reference) I'm a lover and I'm a sinner - I play my music in the sun. I'm a joker. I'm a smoker. I'm a midnight toker (he smokes pot at midnight)..." and yeah, I didn't realize Sheryl covered this but it's a good song. |

| Caedmon's Call – Can't Lose You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song reminds me of my college years. I was in my hometown, working and going to school, and one by one, my friends were moving away... and I could really identify with what he was saying here, "So now everyone's evolving and i am just the same As i was ten years ago, but i don't know Maybe the simple life is more the way to go But then again, i'm mostly all alone" It was a lonely time, but this song was a comfort to me. What does it mean? I guess it's subjective, but I feel like it's Derek speaking to different people - ranging from friends and maybe his future wife - and then back to God in the chorus? That's how I take it at least, when he says, "I'm losing everyone but I know I can't lose you." I love how he compares life, saying, "it's similar to traffic or being president, 'cause I'm not the one in control" - I think he's talking about what he's calling his "gift" in this song. I'm not sure, but I believe Derek has a gift of prophecy, and so I think he's saying, everyone speaks so highly of this gift, but nobody wants it - and I have it and I'm trying to let God be in control, but it stinks because it can lead to loneliness... Now, the lyric that stands out the most to me in this song is one that Derek uses a LOT in his earlier songs, in some regard. Here he says, "Maybe I missed the nose right on my face for what's just past it." This one I don't *get* yet... but I'd love to hear him explain it some time. |

| Caedmon's Call – The Truth Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"And all those before them save the one with my record" Should read, "and all those before them... and still I glance around" i love this song. there are so many times that i thank God that the truth, that God's grace, that my salvation are not contingent on other people's judgments of me or choices or mistakes - and likewise, that the truth, grace, salvation, etc. are not contingent on me - for my sake, and for the sake of the world. |

| itreally bothers me that this song uses sarah mclachlan's "last dance" as it's musical base, and only because i wonder if she is credited. and yes, surely she is, but does anyone know this to be fact? | |
| Michelle Featherstone – God Bless The Child Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i think it's not just about people who are hurting or loners, unpopular people, etc... i think it's for everybody. this line: "Oh beware To take care of yourself Or you lack the strength To help somebody else So take care, take care Of yourself" say, basically, that the people who help these people have to help themselves, too... have you guys heard 'god bless the child' by billie holiday? i think the 2 concepts go together very well.... |

| Sarah McLachlan – Perfect Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
today, this is my song. relationships take work, but there's only so much you can do when the person you're in a relationship with is not secure with themself. this isn't just true with romantic relationships. the insecure person doesn't hear your words for what you're saying - like sarah says, they twist your words until YOU are the one - you are the person to blame, because it is easier to blame you than to blame themself, come to terms with it, and move on. ah, but actually telling that person this... and actually doing what you say... that's another story altogether. |

| Damien Rice – Elephant Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
random thoughts: someone defined the "you" and the "she" in the song, but i don't think it's clear cut - it seems like maybe it goes back and forth, at different times the ex is "you" and vice versa, but... i may be way off. the reason i think this is because of this line: "Do you still forget the breeze?" which echoes 'the blower's daughter' "and so it is just like you said it should be we both forget the breeze.... most of the time" i think "the breeze" is his way of describing how they(he and his "ex" {as we're calling her}) feel for each other. the "elephant" is, to me, about being unforgetable - irreplaceable. like the "elephant in the room", and how "an elephant never forgets". there have been many bad break-ups/losses where i've felt like the absence of that person is like a big elephant following me around... i can ignore it most of the time (like the breeze...huh) but it's there when i'm falling asleep at night and when i first wake up in the morning - let's me know that, nope, i'm still not over that. what i want to see someone explain (or make an argument for an explanation for) is the line "And she may rise, if I sing you down And she may wisely cling to the ground" next? |

| Joshua Radin – The Fear You Won't Fall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I love this song - it's very well written. It resonates with me right now because of where I'm at, relationship wise. I'm not "falling in love" but have been in love for some time and things are in limbo right now, but anyway... I think the 2 phrases that stand out to me the most are: "Part of the beauty of falling in love with you is the fear that you won't fall." Because this is so true, whether we enjoy it or not. and "I hate the phone but I wish you'd call"... I mean, who hasn't felt like that? It's such a paradox - hating something, but wanting it anyway because it would mean so much. |

| Missy Higgins – Unbroken Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Well, I think this song is about making a mistake and dealing with the repercussions from it. I don't have an answer for the part about the parents signing the paper, but I think it's talking partially about an unplanned pregnancy: "Hold the answer to the light, see your future Two line blue line tragedy " As in - home pregnancy test. But that is just what pops out at me. |

| Nine Days – Sometimes Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i interpret this song a little bit differently. i think that the guy is saying *he* is the one that needs the space to deal with some issues, and he knows that the girl thinks she'll lose him but he's telling her, "no...you see, i love you - i just have some stuff to deal with." |
