| Sea Wolf – Winter Windows Lyrics
|
This piece is about a man whom society has rejected. Perhaps it was inspired by someone in the artist's life, but it could also just be a hypothetical/fictional story about such a person.
The man's father never expressed love or for him, and from that the man has never been able to define love. The man's inheritance from his father appears to just be a chair. Perhaps the rest went to his brother who "held" the narrator down for sixty years (the father must have been playing favorites). Perhaps as a boy who was taught "he was the bad one," it became too much for the man who may have tried to down himself in a river.
The part that gets me is when the man speaks to his shadow. While listening I thought he was speaking to a lover, and then when I heard "Said the man, said the man to his shadow" there was a bit of a lump in my throat... that verse is particularly heavy. However so, the man did had a lover at one point in his life, hence the existence of a son he has not spoken to for 5 years. Maybe the man is addressing that lover in his life, except she is not beside him any longer (only his shadow is) because he hit her (abuse is a cyclical behavior).

| Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out Lyrics
|
Franz Ferdinand was the Arch Duke of Austria, was killed by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Serbian movement known as the "Black Hand" on June 28, 1914, and is considered the final straw that caused the Great War to break out.
And, 'dame13', I am an American and am careful with my history and take it seriously. I also know that we primarily became involved in WW1 because the Germans tried to get Mexico to join them and attack us via the infamous "Zimmerman Note", and likely sunk the Lusitania.
Your profile says that you yourself are in the United States, so how much of our own history do you know? |

This is my least favorite next to "Drugs or Me"... both songs just really annoy me. This one primarily because it's about sex in a car and, well, I think it could have been done better. Musically and lyrically. |

I made a comment on this song 2 years ago, and I am wondering if I was referring to the girl I just broke up with. We were dating fro a year, but then she basically cheated on me and then broke up with me.
It's kind of depressing to see all of my comments on this website that I made years ago, mostly because of memories of girls and love. *sigh* |

| Kimya Dawson – Loose Lips Lyrics
|
Several things;
First of all, it annoys me that this song has become popular due to its imfamous "fuck bush and fuck this war" line. There are plenty of songs out there that say the exact same thing, just not so blatently. Don't get me wrong, it's an eye opening work of art.
I enjoy how she used "loose lips might sink ships" as a reference to the united states' passing of the espionage act during world war one, making ANY expression of opposition to said war a federal offence. However, we should feel fortunate that the same will not happen with the Iraq war, nor any future wars. Everyone bitches about wire tapping, but honestly, would you rather have the goverment listen to your phone calls, or throw you in jail for opposing this war? I choose to go with the former.
And on a non-political note, does anyone know who this "Scotty" is? He's mentioned in 'Tire Swing' and I'm curious. |

My grandfather died on October 16... I can't remember well, but I think it was either 2004 or 2003... I just know it was the 16th because I had to write down the date constantly on all of my papers in all of my classes at school. |

My girlfriend (before she was my girlfriend and just a friend) had me listen to this song. She was with another guy at the time and they were falling apart. I now listen to this song and I see her talking with the guy and basically them breaking up. It sometimes hurts even me because it seems like her life has been so unstable. Guys were taking her for granted and it kills me to imagine her having a breakdown over it all.
Beautiful song. |

| Shiny Toy Guns – When They Came For Us Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Whenever I heard this song I've always thought about Nazi Germany. I don't know why, exactly, but I have. The divorice theory sounds great for some parts, but others you can allude to the Nazis and war in general. War is always hard on children and with countries that are highly nationalist, the children will grow up playing with "shiny toy guns" in preperation to fight one day.
The chorus saying:
"When they took the beach that day
They stole the children, took them away
And I miss everyone, but most of all the little ones
And the shiny toy guns."
Could be an interpretation of an invasion or an occupation. Back in the medival times, Muslim countries captured Christian children and trained them as soldiers called "Janissaries". So "when they took the children away" could be a metaphor for indoctrinating them or training them to be on the opposite side.
"I remember mother that day
When her tears woke us so quietly
From our dreams
She told us, that father's sleeping
And he is watching from far away."
The above is in my opinion one of the most moving and beautiful set of lyrics in the song. I always get a little choked up when I really paint the picture in my head. Obviously the father had died... and it would be logical to think he died in a war (if you want to think of the song as an anti-war song).
But they do say "love is a battlefield"... and I would like to lean more towards the divorce explaination... but it just doesnt appeal to me as much. People interpret songs differently and what makes poetry unique is how it can be looked at in so many ways.

| Bloodhound Gang – Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo Lyrics
| 19 years ago

|
The words Foxtrot, Uniform, Charlie, Kilo, and others are radio callsigns that were used in WW2 (and even today) as a way to distinguish letters since some like C, D, E can sound the same over a low-quality radio. That's how the title was made and that's why it spells out the F word. |

It's scary how I used to think "Oh, this song doesnt relate to me." but now I am realizing it couldnt be any closer to a grl I dated twice...but I told her we were just friends cuz I was falling for someone else. Basically I've been rejected twice since that one grl who saw me in ways I couldnt even see myself...and now she's gone.
I guess there's nothing I can do but take the pain. |

"In the '70's there were warmer songs than this."
That's because they were still feeling the effects of the from the 60's with those smelly hippies. This song is awesome...and no, songs with angry lyrics or "rude" lyrics dont makes kids want to do stuff...I say this being a 15 year old myself. Most bands dont put out lyrics just for the hell of it.....alot of them write those lyrics to get something out of their system...and writing about your issues can help you solve them. |

I have an interesting story with this song......as I was sitting outside my biology class...I was listening to this song...I knew that the grl I liked had her class next to mine....but I didnt want to approach her because I had been getting bad vibes the entire week. So i just continued to sit there and listen...the very first verse had finished when I looked up and saw her walking towards me to come talk to me....it was just amazing because I thought she had been trying to avoid me all this time, but here she was walking towards me to come talk to me...and while we were talking there these short 5 second moments of silence where we'd just look at eachothet in the eyes....anyone who has deeply cared for someone knows what that feels like...^.^ |

You cant help but get choked up when you start visualizing this in detail.....I'm only fourteen years old but I miss the days when I was much younger, because I was so muchmore happy back then. And nowadays I dont really have much to be happy about because there's so much on my mind with what I have to do to at least keep my grades up and my relationships with people stable...and to eventually get kissed before I leave highschool... :-/......I'll quote one of Green Day's songs:
"Where did all the little kid go?" |
