what a fucken metaphor. Chris is so amazing. extremely underrated as a lyricist. If u take this song literally or metaphorically it hits u both ways like a ton of bricks. And what a way to end an album. Its like the whole album encompassed in one in a big orgasm. The drumming, the melody, the intricacies, the buildup, and the guitar solo. And of course most importantly the lyrics make this soundgarden's best song. |

This song to me is about how society thunks that being motivated and ambitious is good and that u have to so called "contribute" to society. What Cornell is saying is that the people who are motivated and ambitious are the ones who screw over the world. "the day i tried to live i stole a thousand beggars change and gave it to the rich" People who try to live inevitably are the stock swindlers, politicians, murderers, serial killers and everything else corrupt. He's saying he tried to be motivated and ambitious and he learned that he was just another disgusting human being, who given the chance would be just as much of a fucker as everyone else. Basically, what he is saying is we are all greedy fuckers and we need not go after things but instead let life come to us. |

I looooooov this song so much!!! To me its kind of apocalyptic rant, but not in a religious tone, rather a political tone. Like greed, capitalism, and hunger are taking over the world. Chris is talking about the systema as a whole. There is no one person to blame. The line "its a faceless poison" shows this. Amazing dark song. I agree this is limo wreck part one. |
