"i get more ass than a toilet seat" - gotta love it even if it's not as deep as his other songs. plus nate has a beautiful voice. |

| Echo and the Bunnymen – The Killing Moon Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i agree - about death. has a bit of the haunting element along w/ the word choice yet the guitar makes it so digestable- it is definitely one of the more uplifting songs in Donnie Darko- puts a smile on my face everytime i hear it. even though it's at the start of the movie it reminds me of donnie laughing in the end... |

| Ladytron – The Reason Why Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
self-injury. you wake up and it feels like a dream- sleeping at the "console"- a pun for the consolation of self-injury. signing out forever- going to far and losing your control over life. your second hand- the hand that holds the blade that's the reason why your easy to drive- the wrist, such an easy target, so vulnerable, so plumb, so white. this may not be what the song intended but that's where it takes me. easy to hide- the scared tissue, can be hidden under sleeves, can be positioned to not be seen |

| Fleetwood Mac – Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i always used to think- men they will come and they will go- but this song and all the other songs i love by fleetwood mac will always be there. sometimes i wonder if it's the actual person i fall in love with or just the state of being in love itself or a song that inspires those feelings? | |
| Tori Amos – Fire on the Side Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i wonder why i like this song- the theme is pretty old, it's about jealousy- well not exactly- it's about you loving someone who loves you less than that- sometimes you just wished they'd reject you altogether. Leave it up to tori to transform this trite theme into something so emotional that even for those of us who haven't experienced this situation like me feel the burning. | |
| Tori Amos – Mr. Zebra Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i can see this being sung to a child for bedtime- i can see also the very dark side of it, not just in the lyrics but also her voice. The first time i heard it i thought, what is she talking about?? I have a feeling that even after the millionth time i hear this song- i will think, what is she talking about? =0 | |
| Tori Amos – Cool On Your Island Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this is the first song i heard tori sing and it just got me hooked. i like that the music is so island-y, i don't know how else to describe it. I liked it because even though she is basically saying how much she loves him and she seems so vulnerbale, she is also spelling his defeat as well. This is present in most of her songs- starts off saying how she is let down but in the end, she is stronger due to that experience and the other person realizes this. Makes me think that she is truly the strong person- it doesn't take a lot of courage to be icy, stand-offish, i don't know why our society associates emotion with weakness. Tori is a very strong person in my eyes because she is able to sing and expose these emotions. | |
| Songs: Ohia – Lioness Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| want my last look to be the moon in your eyes. i wonder who/what inspired him to write this song- because it is Brilliance. | |
| Songs: Ohia – Captain Badass Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| masterpiece. i can hear it on repeat for days and it will still shake me. romantic. hypnotizing. i can't even begin to say how much i love this song. if i ever meet a guy and he can sing this or play this or even puts it on- i will walk away because the last guy i met who liked this song did set my heart on fire. captain badass. and i lied .. i'd probably get lost in a hot pulse- cuz all that is alright. | |
| Keane – Emily Lyrics | 20 years ago |

to me this song is about that moment you find out - that someone loves you and that at that moment it is lost. It is kind of like losing your beauty as soon as you look in the mirror. Ever loved someone and then when they find out, everything changes- "You never really had to know." I always find this to be the case so if i really love someone i will never let them find out. The simplicity of the lyrics with the bare music is wonderful- the repetition of the lyrics is similar to the process of trying to "blot" someone out yet all you can do is remember everything. Also when he just says, "and you feel.." and he drags out the feel it's as if he can't feel or maybe that he feels everything at once. It is so emotionally drained, and the fact that the music is just mellow adds to that numbing affect. This song puts me in a trance. I often think that the songs i listen to somehow shape my life- after i realized this i started listening to more upbeat tunes. But i still like to go back from time to time and listen to this song. |

| Bright Eyes – Waste of Paint Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| what can i say that hasn't been said? I Hate this song, yes, i do. When i first heard this song i was creeped out that someone new me better or could express me better than i myself could. In a weird way i was angry and yet relieved- angry that someone was taking my feelings and thoughts from me, the experiences I've had, my defining moments were actually shared or felt by someone else. It made me realize that there is no such thing as authenticity- that we all experience life the same way. But of course i was relieved to hear that i wasn't the only freak who felt that way- about life. so i guess i hate this song because in it i see myself and i hate myself- so i hate the song. If that makes sense.. please explain it to me. | |
| Tori Amos – Winter Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i am still young but sometimes i can't help but wonder that one day when i get old- i will sit and think, what a waste of potential. -"So many dreams on the shelf" I just feel this is the problem of parental love- a case where too much of it can be paralyzing, every father/ mother has to somehow build their childs self-esteem and confidence because they won't always be there- "I tell you that I’ll always want you near You say that things change my dear." Sometimes i feel that parental love is intoxicating. anyhow. This song is wonderful- a coming of age song i should say. When you are young everything is so clear and then you must face the self-doubt and the journey to the self is solitary- and this song reflects the fear we have of never finding that- of "Skating around the truth who I am" forever in a figure eight- tracing the infinite. Tori is a genius. |

| Jack Off Jill – Angels Fuck Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"piss in your heart and be that, and be that SPECIAL GIRL" i love this line- okay i love all the lines... even when i am not going through a huge boy-crisis. I don't think it's just about a break up, it's about love- how we love what we hate and hate what we love. Yes, that is cliche but so true. I also love this song because it is so unlike other songs that are about heartbreaks- this song doesn't make you want to cry, it makes you want to piss in someone's heart and for someone who is meek and forgiving enough as me, it provides just the right amount of vicarious catharsis i need. |

| Jewel – Emily Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| when i first heard this song, i got the impression that it was about a girl named Emily who committed suicide. Then i got the impression that she herself is Emily- and she has lost herself or maybe it was convenient for me to think of it in this way because i have the same name. Whether it is about herself, or about someone else, this song is very poignant. | |
