I think it's about someone wanting the truth to be known about themselves, but find it hard to come to terms with it. 'With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue. Dissolve the nerves that have just begun' this line makes me think they use drugs to help them...just a thought Great song :] |

I think it's basically about the influeneces famous people can have on society and how some of us come to believe the things they say, and want to be like them. Especially with the use of the lines 'Oh and if she tells you 2 is 1 Then 2 is 1 my love'. It's like saying they're so taken in by it, they'll believe anything. :] |

I get the feeling he's saying all the different people are beautiful. People with problems and so on... 'Drag acts, drug acts, suicides, in your dad's suits you hide Staining his name again,' it's like someone seemingly 'normal' has done bad things and hides behind his/her dads good repuatation to try and hide it, therefore 'staining' his name. I love this song :] |

| Suede – The Drowners Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I agree with the brother thing. The lines 'Won't someone give me a gun? Oh, well it's for my brother,' could mean his brother wants the gun, but also could mean he wants to kill his brother. 'Slow down, slow down, you're taking me over' sounds almost sarcastic, like maybe he actually enjoys it? Great song :] |
