Thrice – The Lion and the Wolf Lyrics 16 years ago
This. This this this!

I wrote up a long, meandering interpretation that basically summed up to this, then accidentally erased it. I don't know why everyone thinks it has to be specifically about Satan or the government. :/ To each his own, I guess.

Carrie Underwood – Cowboy Casanova Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with Paige. This song's about a man who's very, very attractive and impossible to resist even though he's a "player" who just goes around breaking hearts. I heard it today for the first time and I was blown away! Amazing~!

Collin Raye – What If Jesus Comes Back Like That Lyrics 18 years ago
Very cute and moving! (Maybe not cute in the traditional sense.)

It's about loving, accepting, and helping your fellow man; after all, to return to the old "WWJD?", you're supposed to love everyone, and try to help them, and not turn them away when they need it (like a crack baby or a homeless man). You never know how Jesus will come back. :)

Love the song, I was jsut wondering about the title...

Shouldn't it be "JA Te Veux"? "I Want You"?

Flyleaf – Sorrow Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, this is my (long-winded) breakdown of the song. And yes, I view Flyleaf as a Christian Rock band, and I am deciphering this song like a Christian song, though I agree that there are so many interpretations of it! :)

“Sometimes life seems to quiet into paralyzing silence
Like the moonless dark, meant to make me strong
Familiar breath of my old lies change the color in my eyes
Soon he will perforate the fabric of the peaceful by and by”

It is a widely held belief in the Christian faith that God tests us all to make our faith stronger. “Like the moonless dark, *meant to make me strong.* Next, she speaks of remembering her old mistakes and sins. “Change the color in my eyes” could be speaking of her guilt and sadness at her past mistakes (here I’m going to use the term of being under conviction). Y’know, how people’s eyes are often described as “darkening” with tears? I’m judging that the last line deals with her personal salvation. Although salvation is a wonderful thing, if you were living a life of sin, it will change what you do in your day-to-day life. But this line is tricky and can refer to many, many different things.

”Sorrow lasts through this night
I'll take this piece of you and hold for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole
As you flew right through me”

I think the first line says that maybe she’s just started her faith, but she’s not saved yet, so “sorrow lasts”. Yet, she takes a piece of God (possibly something physical like a Bible or necklace, but most likely just the changes of her philosophies and beliefs) and swears to hold onto it forever. She does feel whole for a second though, when the Spirit was nearby, maybe she witnessed someone else being saved or someone “in the Spirit” but she herself was not saved. “Flew right through me.”

”Left alone with only reflections of the memory
To face the ugly girl that's smothering me
Sitting closer than my pain, he knew each tear before it came
Soon he will perforate the fabric of the peaceful by and by”

I think this deals with her memories of drug use (or any bad memory, really) and her decision that her outward self, her sins and mistakes, are ugly and smothering the real her. “Sitting closer than my pain” refers to God, and how even though she was hurting and confused, God was closer to her than her own pain, and he knew every tear she would cry before she ever did. The repetition of the last line reinforces my view that it refers to her impending salvation.

"And we kiss each other one more time
And sing this lie that's half way mine
The sword is slicing through the question so I won't be fooled
By his angel light"

Maybe here she falters a little, and doesn’t really know if she wants to commit to a religion. “And we kiss each other one more time and sing this lie that’s half-way mine,” I feel means that she either went back to an old junkie boyfriend, OR it could be read more metaphorically and mean that she went back to drugs, even though she knows it’s wrong because she’s simply frightened of giving herself up to God. However, the knowledge that whatever she’s doing is wrong finally gets the best of her, and she realizes that even if the boy/drugs make her feel good momentarily (“angel light”) they are still wrong.

”Sorrow lasts through this night
I'll take this piece of you and hold for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole
As you flew right through me
And up into the stars

Joy will come”

The last two lines end with the hope of salvation. She knows she’s under conviction, and she’s ready to accept Christ and has faith that “Joy will come” even if it’s not right then and there.

Nickelback – Money Bought Lyrics 19 years ago
She'd just a superficial person living on Mommy and Daddy's money. She does what she wants like a snobby bitch and snubs those 'below her.'

And this song taught me that 'toke' means to smoke a joint. Nickelback is so educational...

Rihanna – Unfaithful Lyrics 19 years ago
The meaning of the song is quite clear. But, I can't be the only one who sung "unfaithful tonight" instead of "a murderer" the first time they heard it, can I? Now I can't listen to this song without mentally replacing those words, and it's driving me crazy.

On a different note, for those that have seen the vid, the pianist is wonderful. I know next to nothing about Rihanna (and the piano, for that matter), so I don't know if he does her music all the time, but I wish I knew if he could really play the piano. Allow me to fangirl a bit: Pianist = Rawr!

Anna Nalick – Breathe (2 A.M.) Lyrics 19 years ago
The first part is obviously talking about abortion, and it's not Anna having the abortion, for the people who seem to think so. Her friend calls her up at 2 AM and tells her that she's pregnant, but she doesn't love him, and she doesn't want the baby. They go to a clinic and people stare accusingly since she's having an abortion. However, they don't have the right to stare so and make accusations because they're all there for the very same thing.

It's a throwback on how so many people are in the mindset of "But I have a REASON!" when it comes to justifying something that's seen as wrong.

The second verse deals with alcoholism. The boy in question is in the military and since they let soldiers drink at age 18 at Ft. Bliss, he's drinking all he can. Anna goes on to say he's beautiful when he smiles and she's sorry for him and his wasted life, and she wants to hold him, but she can't, so she'll just sing about him.

The third verse is just her confirming that this song was true, that these people are people she knows, and she has to get the song out and tell people to make the best of the time they have left.

The chorus is simply saying that what's done is done, and there's no turning back. Don't try to undo what you've done. Don't waste your life looking back on the things you've done, just go forward and live the best you can, because you can't get back lost time.

This entire song is about human regrets, mistakes, and lost time that you'll never get back.

I can't be arsed to look at all the other comments, but has anyone thought that when he starts singing, it sounds like Kingdom Hearts music? Haha, it might just be me.

Nickelback – Savin' Me Lyrics 20 years ago
I agree more along the lines with swampassl. I think this song is more about someone wanting to physically turn their life around for some reason or another (religious reasons or drugs spring to mind for this). They're calling for someone to reach out and help them, because they're in too deep ("I’m on the ledge of the eighteenth story
And oh I scream for you").

They want to be helped and encouraged. This person needs someone there with them to help them through because they feel trapped and alone ("Well I’m terrified of these four walls
These iron bars can’t hold my soul in"
and
"Heaven’s gates won’t open up for me
With these broken wings I’m fallin")

but they know they can change, and that they will overcome the obstacle(s) in their way ("And teach me wrong from right
And I’ll show you what I can be
And I’ll leave this life behind me
Say it if it’s worth saving me")

Overall, he just wants out of a bad situation and needs help doing so, but he wants to be helped by someone who truly thinks he deserves saving. A pretty inspirational song, if I do say so myself.

Fall Out Boy – I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me Lyrics 20 years ago
"I found the cure to growing older
And you're the only place that feels like home
Just so you know, you'll never know
And some secrets weren't meant to be told
I found the cure to growing older"

I might be reading into this too literally, but to me it sounds like "Ha-ha, I know something that a lot of people would be interested in (like a 'cure to growing older') and I won't tell you exactly what I found out!" like finding out something about this girl he's going with, and he's informed her he knows about SOMETHING, he just won't tell her WHAT (he's waiting for her to break down and tell him everything, but she might not even have anything to tell, as I'll address later). But at the same time, he still has feelings for her, even if she did him wrong "You're the only place that feels like home."

"I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends
And I am sorry my conscience called in sick again
And I've got arrogance down to a science"

I love how FOB likes to poke fun at themselves. This reveals exactly why he's phsychologically tormenting this girl by holding this 'secret' above her head-- he's a sick, arrogant bastard. He says that he's the 'first kid to write about hearts, lies, and friends', meaning he's the first and foremost, the best, the most important. He also says his conscience 'called in sick again.' Saying he was sorry about it was pure, sadistic sarcasm-- he has no conscience, and there's no holds barred on what he might do.

"Douse yourself in cheap perfume it's
So fitting of the way you are
You can't cover it up"

Cheap perfume is 'so fitting' because he's calling her a whore, like the expression "She has on too much perfume. She smells like a French whore." Right now, he's verbally abusing her, hinting that he believes she had an affair of some sort, saying that she 'can't cover up' what she's done.

"Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip
I'm sending your fingernails and empty bottles you've sipped
Back to your family cause I know you will be missed"

Maybe this whole conversation started when they were having dinner at his place- "empty bottles you've sipped." He starts to get really violent(either because she refuses to admit she did anything, or that she confesses to having an affair), and she tries to run away, and he taunts her-"Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip". He plans on killing her and sending her fingernails (possibly because he still finds her attractive and doesn't want to mangle her corpse too much) and the empty bottles of champagne they'd had to her family, just so they know that she's gone, but they're not sure if she's really dead. Very sadistic.

"They call kids like us vicious and carved out of stone
But for what we've become, we just feel more alone
Always weigh what I've lost against what I left
Progress report: I am missing you to death"

He kills her out of anger, and since he has no conscience, he feels no remorse right then. He's called vicious like every other killer, but from killing her, he's just ultimately alone. He starts feeling remorse and he weighs what he lost against what he left-- he could have just left her if he thought she was cheating, but he was an arrogant, unstable bastard, so he stupidly kills her. He's come to his senses by having time (probably in his cell) to contemplate what he's done, and he feels sorry, and misses her.

Of course, whether he really kills her is up to interpretation, but... *shrug* I've been watching Silence of the Lambs, so I'm a bit morbid right now.
