Islander – Coconut Dracula Lyrics 9 years ago
"It's a song about having a new nature. Count Dracula one day finds a coconut on the ground and bites into it. He discovers that there are beautiful things in the world that have nothing to do with being evil or hurting people. He then gets his name legally changed from Count Dracula to Coconut Dracula. He is roommates with a Werewolf, Frankenstein, a Witch, and a Mummy. They are very confused about Dracula's new lifestyle as he is helping with charities, wearing batman pajamas, and eating fresh veggies from his garden. The song is from the Mummy's point of view as he is desiring to be filled with the same joy that has captured Dracula's heart."

System of a Down – Chop Suey! Lyrics 15 years ago
The POV is of Jesus Christ. I like to think of the story as of a drug-addicted-hypocritical-Christian-lady. She wakes up in the morning… She puts on her makeup… wears clothes to cover the scars on her arms… she can’t find the keys to the car… where’d she put them last night when she came in? Her husband is helping her and he finds them… “Why’d you leave the keys on the table?” he says. She can’t tell him what she was doing last night so she lies about it. She hears that still, small voice… the voice of Jesus. The lie she told was a sin. Sin is the result of her lack of faith… Lack of faith in the righteous Savior who died for her sins… Sin is the result of her doing what she wants to do instead of what God wants her to do. Jesus said that he laid his life down of his own accord, and that nobody took it from him. He chose to die on that cross, he could have prevented it at any time but he didn’t… Thus Jesus was suicidal. He claimed to be the Sinless One, and the righteous Messiah of the world. System Of A Down, obviously not Christians themselves, find the idea of salvation by faith in a self-righteous, suicidal Savior contemptible so they wrote this song about it to show all the hypocritical Christians how ludicrous it is. They threw some of the most confusing Christian theology into the song just for good measure: While Jesus was dying on the cross he cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” What is going on there? How can the Father forsake His only Son? What about the three-in-one Holy Trinity? Then there is the issue of the belief in Lucifer and his hoards: Christians believe that Satan and every demon used to be angels; Satan wanted to be like God so he and all of the angels who followed him were cast out of heaven. Is it an act of mercy from God that these angels, who deserve to die, were cast out of heaven and allowed to live instead of being thrown into the lake of fire right away? Did God cry when His creation (Lucifer supposedly being the most glorious angel God ever created) rebelled against Him? I imagine He did… it must have hurt Him deeply. Maybe that line in the song is supposed to add to Jesus’ self-righteousness… “See how righteous I am? I cry when angels deserve to die.” If I am anything close to understanding the meaning of this song it reveals that SOAD knows surprisingly much about the Christian religion, they are right after all: Jesus was self-righteous (in the sense that he was the only self-righteous person ever to have lived). He is merciful, and those angels do deserve to die. We do need to trust in his death and we don’t. How often do we do what we want to do instead of what he wants us to do? The generalization that all Christians are hypocrites is not far from the truth, we are all sinners who need to confess our sin not just to God but to each other, otherwise we end up hiding it and become hypocrites, which is sadly the state of most (not all) Christians I know. And that is the impression and message I get from this song. I think it is beautiful and I hope it serves as a wake-up call to Christians and not a stumbling block, we do, after all, have the truth, and it is the people who sing this song (and a vast majority of the people who read this comment) who are suppressing it.

Thrice – Of Dust And Nations Lyrics 17 years ago
Thrice songs are full of references. In Dune (an awesome book series) a character called The Preacher says this; "Blasphemers and idolaters! All of you! The religion of Muad'Dib is not Muad'Dib. He spurns it as he spurns you! Sand will cover this place. Sand will cover you."
That's what I think of at least but I am often wrong. The Biblical references are obvious to most Christians but it seems like every time someone says something about it the conversation turns into a lame "Christians vs non-Christians" argument that is old and repetitive. I think it would be cool if we could all drop our biases here and talk about the music without arguing.

Tech N9ne – Going Bad Lyrics 17 years ago
If Tech knows the truth he'll be with Jesus one day. Even though he sins man it's a good thing that Jesus came to take away the sins of the world and even though we all sin in this life if we believe in Jesus He'll take us to a place better than we can imagine. I'm prayin for Tech 9 cause I think he really loves God but he's havin a hard time livin right.

Blindside – After You're Gone Lyrics 18 years ago
This song makes me think of CS Lewis' book "The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe". He was honest with the witch so she turned him to stone. His skin grows thicker as he's not walking because so much would change in a hundred year frost and he would't know much if he was set free. Stuff like that.

But if Aslan the Lion, King of Beasts, would come then the fighting against the witch would be over. Aslan could come and sing him to life. Without Aslan the White Witch reigns and she would turn him to stone as soon as Aslan left.

That's just what it makes me think of.

Blindside – Silence Lyrics 18 years ago
I've thought about this song a lot over the past three years. Listened to it over and over again for hours in the night. It totally sums up how I feel about God. You can interpret it however you want but Blindside had something in mind when they did this and I don't think it had anything to do with romantic relationships. If you get something different out of it then great - I'm not against that at all but this song can speak volumes to a believer and I'm in that boat.

Everyone at some point in their life wonders who God is, if He is at all. It's a thought that's been programmed into our beings. People think that God is hard to follow and hard to find but the truth is that He has revealed Himself to humanity through creation and that He wants to have a loving relationship with us. That relationship comes through Jesus Christ. The New Testament claims that Jesus Christ is literally the Word of God and that He is God Himself and that He indwells Himself among Christians; that's the fire in the first line of the song - the Bible says "His Word burns in my heart like a fire".

Christianity is kind of hard to explain because everything is about this guy that died 2,000 years ago, but He was actually God, and He rose from the dead, and we can talk with Him like He's standing right beside us. Everybody knows that religion sucks because you have to follow stupid rules. The religion of Christianity is represented by the cross. That's what is meant by "the cross is only a burden". The cross represents "pain and trials" because God has rules that none of us can abide by, and if you cant abide by the rules you die. But Jesus did abide by the rules and then He laid down His life and suffered so that we don't have to abide by the rules. We just have to believe in Jesus! Consequently "my shoes are light", I have no burden, "I can walk for miles and still just love You."

One of my most powerful memories with Jesus Christ was walking along a moonlight ocean beach, alone, praying. I was frustrated because it's hard to believe in something you can't see. I asked Him so many times to show me something to prove that He's real, and then He showed me the ocean, and the moon, and the stars, and how every grain of sand on that beach couldn't add up the number of good thoughts He has for me. "Wow," I thought, "I love You." When you realize how amazing God is it should leave you speechless. A silent conversation can be a beautiful thing. Silence is a beautiful thing by itself. "Our hearts speak the same word"

Even though I may have such incredible intimacy with God on a personal level we still have the world to face. So I stick up for my God through my faith and He does the rest of the work to show the world that He loves them too. They still don't believe, many of them never will believe, even when there are miracles happening and I can really see that God is moving; I think that everyone will know now that God has proven Himself, but they ignore Him. Before there was sin and death in the world mankind was faced with a choice. God told man one thing and Satan told him another and man chose Satan's way. That's why the world is the way it is today. All of us are faced with the same choice. Love is only real if there is choice. The harder it is to make the right choice the more genuine your love is proven to be. To create the relationship God wants with us there has to be choice. Sometimes you notice that God is there, as if He walked by and you caught a glimpse, and you realize what an awesome being He is. He created the depths of space, the stars and the planets and the comets and the black holes; the same being that created the eyeball and the butterfly and the atom. It's something that can make your heart pound in fear, but He loves you more than you can imagine. He proved His love for you by becoming a man and giving up His own life; that's something that makes my heart pound from exitement.

His love is so breathtaking. Why would the God of the Universe lower himself into the form of man in a fallen state and suffer through poverty, beatings, and execution? Because He loves me! He wants to give me the choice to be with Him and He wants to make it as easy as possible. The song says "our hearts speak the same word", I believe that word is love (if you needed something verbal to explain something silent).

I know that I got very analytical here. There's so much that could be said about this song, and I kind of want to say all of it, but words just can't explain Silence (since by nature silence is absent of words). It's a song about that thing that I just can't explain, my faith, and how this love is so real and no one else seems to understand such a simple thing.

Haste the Day – Song Of Faith Lyrics 18 years ago
a couple lines worshipping god is better than a couple lines glorifying anything else.
and maybe the singer can't sing but he has one of the coolest sounding screams ever and the guitar player can sing.
besides... he's not in the band anymore.

ps... you're a piece of shit.

Cold – No One Lyrics 18 years ago
There were two very unexpected deaths of people close to me. The suprise left me feeling very abandoned by whoever it was that could not at least warn me before it happened. But there was no warning for anyone. This song really captures that feeling of abandonment, where no one understands what you're really going through. There's really something special about this song. It's hard to put a finger on it though.

Becoming the Archetype – Elegy Lyrics 18 years ago
Deception. Lament. Triumph. Someone two millenia ago came into this world and saw the deception for what it is - a spiritual war. All these people who are on a highway to Hell and they know it, they're marching in the wrong direction and they feel it. One day so many of them will be condemned to a place of unimaginable terror, forever. As time has been pressing foreward it's gotten progressively worse, now at an epidemic rate.
"We watch while sanity dies" and what do we feel for these people? What do we do for them? Lament and pray. On the cross Jesus prayed for them saying "Father forgive them, they know not what they do". Minutes later Jesus Christ was dead. Three days later He was alive. He triumphed over all the deception and wickedness and despair in this world for anyone who would believe Him. Sometime soon He's gonna come back and He's gonna judge this world for what it is. It can't go on this way forever. He fixes it eventually.

Extol – Undeceived Lyrics 18 years ago
This is powerful. Here's a girl who's dying because of her sin and at the very end she remembers the Lord and he honors that. Even though her whole life has gone down the drain away from God she cries out to Him with all of her last bit of energy. She goes straight from overcoming darkness to overwhelming light and meets her Father in eternity.
The strings at the begining are pretty cool too. I think this would have been a great opening track to the album.

Extol – Shelter Lyrics 18 years ago
wow this is one of the most beautiful poems i've ever seen. extol is amazingly talented. i don't understand their words until i see them though. it's hard to hear - escpecially if you're trying to keep up with what they're doing instrumentally. these lyrics in particular really remind me of the psalms. it's so powerful to see that as the song progresses the heart changes. once the heart is broken and humbled (at what you'd think is a low point) god can lift us higher than we ever imagined.
